hi, i'm karina and i happen to talk to phil spaeth.. i know him through a mutual friend, and i do talk to him online daily. he is not stuck up at all - i don't even know him very well, and we still talk online and he's so sweet. he's even going to meet up with me after a show sometime and take me backstage - and he doesn't even know me that well. and honestly, if you were an 18 year old kid from cherry hill, new jersey with hopes of becoming a broadway star, any role in new york city would be amazing for you. not to mention, that he got into WICKED - one of the most successful shows in the history of broadway. he is obviously talented, and i'm sure you would be proud of yourself if you managed to get a role in a broadway show like wicked. if you don't know him, don't say crap about him. and who cares if you don't friggen see his face when he's acting? it's his talent that enabled him to get this role, and not a pretty boy image. just wanted to say that because i feel that being semi-friends with him, i feel inclined to defend him. phil - friend and fan always.

well, on a previous thread, a bunch of people posted how he was stuck up and such. and i felt that i should defend him. if it doesn't apply to you, sorry.

you can. i haven't seen him in the show yet so i can't judge that, but i can judge based on his personality. and that's what i'm defending - not his theatre skills. i'd hear your opinion if you're willing to share it - that's not what i was disproving.

well, that may be true, but think about it - an 18 year old kid from new jersey gets a role on broadway. i'm sure that he didn't have enough experience, but he can get better. honestly, he can't be amazing at first, no one ever is. but getting better, that's what it's about. learning through experience.

For somebody who has known him for a couple years and I can tell you that there is more going on then just a "hometown boy makes it big." But I am not one to get into other peoples business. Especially on a message board.

maybe you're right, but on the other hand, is every performer always happy? but like i said, i haven't seen him onstage, and i'm not going to lie and pretend i did in order to make a point.

Okay, whoa. I tend to not take issue with people defending performers that they like, because God knows I do enough of it... but I also don't go around name dropping, which is the main part of your problem, my dear. This isn't the place to defend someone you know just because you know them personally, *especially* when you haven't even seen them perform. When we're talking about performers, that should be what comes first. It's fine to talk about what you know of someone's personality, because in theatre many people do interact with actors they like, but you're rather defeating the purpose, aren't you?

And, you're also going to have to learn that people aren't always going to agree with your shameless defenses, legitimate or not, and that you haven't got any right to flame someone else for calling you out on something on which he or she is clearly more informed.

i agree with you, but on the other hand, i never mentioned his performance. it's not like i was saying he's a good performer, and then justifying that by saying he's a nice kid. i was just referring to the other post, when people started bitching about his personality. but i respect your opinion.
