Since CHICAGO is once again a current topic, what with the 10th anniversary of the revival coming up and all. I thought I'd share some nice rare photos of Bob Fosse's ORIGINAL 1975 Broadway production. Yes...the original DID have costumes and a full working set.
Photo 1: model of Tony Walton's original set with the bandstand above.
Photo 2: Chita & Gwen doing the original RSVP/Keep It Hot (aka "Hot Honey Rag") number. Notice that the costumes look very much like the film-version's.
Photo 3: Chita doing the "I Can't Do it Alone" number
Great photos! One of my professors was the original standby and first replacement for Mama Morton. I've always wondered what the show looked like!
Cheers,
Christopher
Such a beautiful production. It's nice to know that photos of the original production are no longer as rare as before.
Great pictures! Are there any more of the set? I'm intrigued by what the physical production looked like.
These photos make me glad the 96 revival didn't go with using the original costume choices.
justme2 - you are joking right?
No, I'm not. The flapper dresses don't look too bad, but the dark tights with the light shoes? And that getup that Chita is wearing in the second shot? I realize it's a 70's take on a twenties look, but I;ve also seen the footage on the Broadway DVDs, and the outfits are just as bad in color.
Remember, it's only my opinion.
I love that bottom picture of Chita. Sexy, old lady, isn't she?
