Posted: 6/6/05 at 7:14pmThat'd be great. I don't know what criteria they use to decide what to record (does a show have to win Best Musical?), but hopefully the six Tonys will be enough.

Posted: 6/6/05 at 7:40pmNot to so blatantly expose my ignorance on this subject, but do you think writing a letter of inquiry to Lincoln Center would be beneficial in any way?

I don't think that's ignorant at all. Maybe naive, because I'm sure it's crossed their mind and they have a good sense of what kind of support the airing get get, but even then, it's not a bad idea.
PBS and others (American Playhouse, Live from Lincoln Center) have recorded these performances for shows that weren't best musical winners (Sunday in the Park, Into the Woods, Kiss Me Kate in London, A Little Night Music from NYCO), so I think it's a possibility, and Piazza is exactly the type of show they like to do this with.

Posted: 6/6/05 at 7:51pmI would be insanely happy if they did this. It's an amazing score; I'd love to see the rest of the show.

SPOILER QUESTION!!!!!!!
I'm dying to find out what the heck happens at the end of the show! I've heard the CD - and after Margaret explains that Clara was kicked by a pony as a child, we never hear from Clara again. What happens to her? I mean, I got the impression that maybe she's not real - that Margaret is imagining she's still there, or something like that. Am I way off?

It wouldn't be Lincoln Center you would write to, it would be Great Performances. But they have cut their televising of theater down to almost none.
In the current political climate, funds for this kind of programming have totally dried up. The money to pay for everything would have to be raised by outside sources.

Posted: 6/6/05 at 11:18pmIt would be amazing if they recorded it for PBS. I've been listening to the whole cd tonight for the first time, and I can't get enough of it. I'm still hitting my head for not seeing Piazza when it was in Chicago. :-p

Well, there's no time like the present. Great Performances can be emailed at programming@thirteen.org. Or you go go to http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/feedback/feedback.html and fill in a comment form directly on the website.
That probably won't do much for our cause, but it never hurts. Maybe we can all promise to support our local BS affiliates if they do it.

Posted: 6/7/05 at 1:49pmActually, you need to write to rich people. The cost of these shows is underwritten by private citizens and corporations. But with the wealth that the Rodgers family has, they could underwrite the entire project on their own.
