The video is wonderful for what it does give us--those great performances and the choreography. But the ending is all hacked to bits and there are songs missing. Plus, I understand that Fosse would hate edited it better.
Could someone please clarify the conflict between Schwartz and Fosse about the ending because I've seen so many versions and each time the ending is different. I read the info on the inside of the OBCR, but I was wondering if anyone knew more.

If you read Schwartz's show notes re: Pippin on his wesite (musicalschwartz.net, I believe) he refers to the Fosse choreography as too much "bumping and grinding" and suggests that future performances be done without it. It's worth scouring the site for his diplomatic but telling commentary on how he thinks the show ought to be presented.
re-All that Jazz and Pippin:
The scene in the beginning of the movie where the Composer is angry at Joe Gideon for casting the girl who cannot sing, is based on Fosse casting Ann Reinking as the understudy for Catherine in The original production of Pippin.
Also the Scene in which Gideon re-conceives the Airline number into a Sexy burlesque is a reference to Fosse re-conceiving Morning Glow.
Just wanted to clear it up
Also When Papermill Playhouse did Pippin back in 2000, Scwartz was quoted as saying that he never liked the Fosse version and the version that was being mounted at Papermill was more akin to what he originally envisioned. Interestingly enough, the Papermill production was not reviewed well at all IIRC.

Is the current tour (at least I think it's still running) anything like the original?
I saw that and enjoyed it.
EDIT: It seems the tour ended in January.
