andsym9001,
I would have to say of the 85 minutes, maybe about 10 minutes, but it's over 3 times.

Sorry to get stuck on this, but no one answered and I kind of need to know --
Do you get picked at random to participate, or must you volunteer?
Does anyone refuse, and how does that go?
I'm beginning to think if I'm this scared BEFORE I even get there, maybe this isn't for me
Just to put it in perspective, Haunted House / Scream in the Park type things at Halloween terrify me. It's the Teller thing, and the visuals I'm expecting, that are the draw for me here
(to explain why I'm even considering this)
Sorry to keep asking this, and thanks again

People are picked at random, but as with nearly all shows, if you don't make eye contact and refuse to get out of your seat, then they won't force you to participate.
Play Dead is included in 20at20 for January 24-February 6, 2011, which means they will sell all remaining tickets for $20 cash, 20 minutes before curtain.

I would also say the show is more fun-scary than scary-scary. Sure people scream at times, but it is more screams of laughter than screams of terror.
Nobody refused to go up on stage at the performance I attended. He did seem to pick mostly younger people (under 35) for the extended bits. Probably because they are less likely to say "no".

Do they accomplish all these various tricks without touching people? How to they eliminate the possibility of legal entanglements? Do people sign a waiver going in? Is there some agreement the fine print when purchasing tickets? Or is it the verbal consent in front of X number of witnesses enough?

themysteriousgrowl,
The legal aspect you asked of is covered by the signs and verbal warnings. Also, they watch the audience in the dark with night vision goggles to assure your safety.

Saw the show tonight and absolutely loved it.
They definitely touch you. It is scary and it's also very funny. I say go see it. It's unique and thoughtful. It really is more than just cheap thrills. It's good theater.
