It might have been in talks of closing, but now since the movie came out, the show will surely stay open for awhile longer.
They expect the movie, like Chicago did, to boost ticket salses at POTO, so I'm sure they're in fine shape.

Emmy does sound fantastic on "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", but the duet "The Phantom of the Opera" is wretched with both of their voices. As I understand it, the Phantom is supposed to have a voice that mesmorizes - and Gerard certainly doesn't mesmorize. He's not at all what I would envision the Phantom to sound like. Crawford is. You need a BIG, deep, and poweful voice - none of which Gerard has. They could have probably found 1,000 guys who could sing the role better than him. After the horrible casting that was EVITA, this is another disappointment. I thought because he didn't cast big names (like Madonna and Banderas) that it would be better - it isn't.

"What the hell happened to you? You look like a Make-A-Wish Kid. You know, I just knew you were gonna bring shame on this new family of ours, and it just figures you had to go make yourself over into some heroin-shootin skate board chic on the only day E! could interview you!" - Cherry Cherry, on her daughter Mary Cherry

"And I can assume whatever the hell I want kec. Half of what people write on here is opinion and assumption - that's what discussion boards are for. We'll see in 6 months how many people haven't reverted back to the OLCR. "

I don't presume to make statements on behalf of people I don't know. If you want to do so, go right ahead. You do not speak for me, however.

I loved MIchael Crawford in the role when I saw it on Broadway, and he's always been my favorite Phantom. When I listened to the OLCR recently while on a long car trip, for the first time in a very long time, though, I found I wanted to hear Butler's deeper voice coming out of my car speakers.

Butler may not mesmerize you, but his voice seems to be working for a lot of other people -- at least according to the reviews I've read. I grant you his singing isn't perfect, but, in my opinion, he is by no means as bad as you seem to think he is. His voice works for me. Obviously it doesn't work for you. Differing opinions.

As far as the stage show is concerned, I read somewhere that tickets sales for the London production have picked up a bit since the film opened over there last week. It may work here as well. Updated On: 12/12/04 at 04:37 PM

I would have perfered someone in between Emmy and Sarah singing styles.

The guy who plays the phantom sounds familiar. How would one knwo him. Has he ever done anything? Just wondering.

And I like the soundtrack. I think it makes Phantom a little moer harsh and not so whinny like Michael Crawford whom I cannot stand.

Jon, if you look at the IMDB, you can see Gerard Butler's filmography. I've seen four of his films -- Lara Croft The Cradle of Life (Terry Sheridan), Dracula 2000 (Dracula), Timeline (Andre Marek) and Atilla (title role). Phantom is his first singing role on screen.

I wasn't expecting much from the actors... so I was pleasantly surprised. I think Emmy does a great job for someone who was 17 at the time. I'd much rather listen to her than Renee Zellweger's sad excuse for singing in "Chicago."
