This is utterly disgusting. Anyone else agree that it sucks beyond all imagining?

Thanks for the link, I haven't got to hear the soundtrack yet and I sotof like this version. It's more dramatic in my opinion.

The first act, well disk 1, is great. I love it.

However, I don't want to ruin the ending, so I'm not listening to disk 2 until I see the movie. I think Phantom is like the ONLY big time musical I'm not familiar with. Sad, yes, I know lol

timote, if you don't wanna ruin the ending, i'd say listen up to the end of point of no return. some of the best songs are in act 2. the ending won't be ruined, but you'll be left in suspense and even more anxious to see it!

It's ok. The Phantom and Christine stink - to be frank. Horrible casting - just like the EVITA movie! I think the orchestra and orchestrations are great, but it doesn't hold a candle to the London or Vienna cast recordings. Once the novelty wears off, no one on here will be listening to it. The Phantom is excruciatingly awful. I can't really even listen to the soundtrack because while the orchestra/orchestrations are great, and I love Raoul and Carlotta, the rest sucks...especially the dialogue that used to be song.

I'd prefer a Phantom and Christine who can actually sing their parts well and are appropriate ages...After hearing the soundtrack the first time, the first thoughts that popped into my mind was "Angel of music my ***"...

hey, hey, easy! I think they're good! And Schumacher wanted a younger cast, and ALW thought that was ok! And I think yes, their voices DO need getting used to, but i think they're both very talented!

Coincidentally, tonight my friends and I (who are all anti-anything Broadway related) were talking about POTO movie, and I mentioned my distaste of Brightman--they all looked at me like I had 13 heads, and said "Jill, what are you talking about? She is amazing?"

And this is what seperates the Broadway people from the Indie Rock people...

"Once the novelty wears off, no one on here will be listening to it."

Please don't assume that just because you may do this that others will as well.

BTW, that link provides you with music from the Highlights cd, not the full soundtrack.

I disagree that the Phantom is "excruciatingly awful." I like what I've heard thus far overall, and am looking forward to seeing the film on Friday. Updated On: 12/12/04 at 03:41 AM

I'm not a Brightman fan, but she is absolutely better than Rossum, and could successfully hit all the high notes without sounding like she was constepated. Emmy sounds beautiful in the non-demanding parts of the role, but just doesn't cut it when it counts. I know opera, and there's no way in hell someone singing like Rossum would replace someone singing like Margaret Preece. It's so non-convincing. And, yes, Butler is terrible. If he approached me, I'd laugh. There's no command in his voice, no terror, no beauty.

I listend to the CD a lot the first week, because I was so excited for it. Now, I don't. And I can assume whatever the hell I want kec. Half of what people write on here is opinion and assumption - that's what discussion boards are for. We'll see in 6 months how many people haven't reverted back to the OLCR.

Loge, while i respect your opinion, an action people on bww don't do nearly enough, i don't entirely agree with it.
I think Rossum has a good voice, and no, she isn't THE most gifted ever, but in adittion to the singing, she is an awesome actress, so hopefully we'll see that in the movie
I also think, again while Butler isn't the best, he admits to never having been trained, and I think the intensness of his voice makes it beautiful and terrifying. He sounds raw, and that's how I imagine the phantom would sound...

I hope seeing the movie will sway your opinion

I was comparing the voices on the soundtrack to the OLC and I have to say, while the voices on the soundtrack may not be as precise or trained, I prefer the sound of their voices more. And I agree that Butler sounds like I imagined the Phantom to. Listen to Emmy is "Wishing you were Somehow Here Again." She sounds so good on that song, and I prefer her to Brightman.

i don't think they've discussed it yet, but there have been rumors of it closing for 5+ years. However, I don't think it will close for awhile--it's one of those must-see tourist shows.
