Has anyone seen the phantom tour lately? I am planning on seeing it when in comes to Atlanta in August and September. How is the cast? How's the whole show going?

I didn't see it while I was in Boston, but many of my friends have. They said it was a lot better than the Broadway production, actually. Personally, I don't really like the show itself, and people who don't like it but went to see it anyway said it was kind of blah. But in a revitalized way. The Broadway production is completely blah. I hear Gary Mauer as the Phantom is incredible. Christine is just eh. Hope this helps!

Haha, I love how I didn't use any actual adjectives but made up ones in that description. Haha, sorry, but you get the picture. I hope.

I personally didn't like the current POTO touring cast. They were all just serviceable, nothing special at all. Maybe I saw an off night? But it was all very blah.

I hear that the POTO tour cast is wonderful! Granted that people do have mixed opinions about the Christine. You'll have a great time!

Better than than the Broadway production? Well, I don't know if I'd go that far. However, I'm just a tad biased. LOL! :)

This is cute:

The four cast members of ‘’The Phantom of the Opera” were all dressed up but, with the cancellation of yesterday’s Red Sox game against the Baltimore Orioles, they had no place to sing the national anthem. So the four, Stephen Tewksbury, Peter Lockyer, Gary Mauer, and Tim Martin Gleason, did the next best thing: They took in a showing of ‘’Fever Pitch.”

Yes, my friend, who has seen the show twice on Broadway, said that the production in Boston was remarkably more fresh. He has a point, I mean the production on Broadway has been going on and on for years, but this one has only been around for a short time. I believe some long-running shows, including Phantom and even others like Rent, definitely need to kick it up a notch. They're starting to get old and tired. That's how I felt when I saw Phantom a couple of years ago and Rent a few months ago. It seems like the shows are just going through the motions. Snap out of it! I don't know what needs to be done, but they need to get tighter, and fast. It's a shame to be in that condition. "Remember your first time"? To be honest, I can't. It was just entirely forgettable. Therefore, my friend's probably right, and the tour should be in fine shape.

I saw the tour in Detroit. Gary Mauer was pretty good, and I liked Rebecca Pitcher (I heard she's known for a lot of vibrato and I didn't think it was that bad). I did not like the Carlotta...she was TOO shrill. The sound overall was muffled but I guess that was because of the theater, Masonic Temple, which I didn't care for. I wish they'd been in the Fisher. That's where Les Miz was.

Tim Martin Gleason (Raoul) is set to leave the 22nd of this month, and so is Rebecca Pitcher, although I'm not sure of the date for her departure. Tim is slotted to be the new Raoul on Broadway, and I believe Rebecca is leaving to finalize her wedding plans.

I saw it in Boston at the redone opera house. I don't have a program near to talk about specific actors, but I'll give what info I can. Understanding that this is the third time I've seen it, and I am not by any means a big POTO fan I enjoyed the production. The dancing was excellent, and it was as visually dynamic as ever. The Phantom was very good, Christine a little weak and I liked the Rauol better than the one I saw on Broadway or on the previous Boston tour. It remains a spectacle worth seeing.

I saw it in Boston this past Sunday. Gary Mauer was wonderful and I agree that the production was fresher than the last time I saw it on Broadway (a little over a year ago). I wasn't impressed with Tim Martin Gleason as Raoul though...very wooden. During "All I Ask of You" it seemed as though he and Rebecca were far more concerned with getting the notes right than injecting any emotion or passion into the scene. Still didn't live up to the West End Production I saw in September with John Owen Jones though. Does anyone know why, in the US Productions, "Wandering Child" is done as a duet between Christine and the Phantom?. I think it's much more effective when done in three part with Raoul (which is the way I originally saw it here and how it is still done in the West End).

I saw it a year ago in Chicago (I know David Cryer) and I loved it. Gary MAuer wasn't Hugh Panaro but was great none the less.

I love Tim Martin Gleason as Raoul, but he seemed to give a love him/hate him type of performance. I saw him six or seven times and didn't care for him the first time, but after that, whee.

the london production is the only production to do wandering child as a trio, which is a pity, as it sounds so much cooler that way.
I don't know the reason, but i suspect it may be because the original raoul (the late great Steve Barton) was a baritone, whereas most raouls have been tenors, which wouldn't have been as effective without the contrast between the Phantom's tenor (usually). But also, Barton was raoul in the original Broadway cast. Which puts a slight doubt on my theory....

So in short, i guess i don't know

Didn't they perform it as a trio in the original German cast? (I don't have that cast recording on me.)

GARY MAUER IS AMAZING!

I've seen him four times, and each and everytime he has made me bawl my eyes out. He is the most amazing singer/actor/Phantom I have ever seen. Just, amazing.

Rebecca Pitcher is delightful. I think she does a great Christine, and her voice is beautiful.

It's a WONDERFUL cast. Carlotta and Madame Giry are both wonderful.

I had front row seats to see it, and Madame Giry, when I stood up for her blew me a kiss. It was kick ass.

But AWESOME AWESOME cast. Just to see Gary Mauer is well worth the money. Yes, I'll shamelessly worship him to the day I die.
