The Kimmel Center, Inc. and Shurbert Organization will combine efforts to present Philadelphia's 2007-08 theater Season, presenting shows in both the Forrest Theater and Kimmel Center's Broadway at the Academy of Music.

This is a smart move on the part of the two presenters. The Forrest Thea. has been all but dark too long since the Kimmel Center, The Academy of Music & The Merriam dominated the theater scene. It will be good for the city and our Philly theater people.
(Don't jinx us Dottie! Hopefully none of these venues will totter anytime soon. Hope to meet up with you, for real, this season, as well as some other BWW folks.)

Posted: 3/1/07 at 9:31pmPB, I would never jinx Philly, since it's one of my "new" favorite places to visit!! I'm just surprised Piazza wasn't moved to the Forrest since it's presently dark.

Posted: 3/1/07 at 9:41pmThat would have been awesome, I think it would fit will in the Forrest anyway. It would be beautiful at the Academy, though. Color Purple will look great there.

The LitP tour cancelled, but it was supposed to be at the Merriam, not Forrest.
I always thought that the Forrest was a part of the Kimmel. Hah.. Oops.
The Merriam marketing STINKS. Just saying. All the shows have played to half filled houses. Which is really sad.

Posted: 3/1/07 at 11:24pmBP2 could not agree with you more about the marketing. I know people who usher there and we always get comps so the house can be full. It is a shame because such good shows come in and no one knows.

TD87, we should go watch more shows. :)
Merriam got a new Marketing rep.
Marketing can do SO much better... Bah.
Every tour I've talked to said that this house has the worst marketing out of any other houses they've played.
I still love the Merriam though.

Piazza did not move into the empty Forrest because the co-sponsors of the Philadelphia engagement decided that the show wouldn't sell and decided to cancel it when original venue plans fell through (i.e. renovation of the Boyd Theater) rather than continue on with at Merriam as announced or to even book it into the Forrest which would have been the obvious choice.
Many people in Philadelphia asked why not run at the Merriam as announced or, if necessary, use the Forrest instead?...well, that is why not.
Big mistake, because Philadelphia is a real theater-going town which also would have pulled Piazza fans as well from New York and New Jersey. It most assuredly would have been a total sell-out for its short one-week run there. Nothing is more exasperating than timid promoters who get cold feet.

Posted: 3/2/07 at 7:53amIssaMe, you're correct in your assessment. I know many people from NYC who would have made the trip to Philadelphia to see this. It would have been much easier for me to make the trip from DC, but alas, I'll be renting a car tomorrow to get to Hershey.

Very good news! I'm moving this year, and funds for NYC trips will be in short supply.
Side note, thanks for teaching me how to make the smiley face with shades, PB. All the 2008 dates followed by a parentheses in the press release look 'cool'.

I assure you that was a default command when I did a copy and paste.LOL!...suggestions welcmome on how to send those shaded smileys to the beach!
Speaking of marketing at the 3 theaters, I will try to see if they are open some "special ticketing" other than groups, rush, etc. If I can talk to them about offering discounts for BWW members ( since I cover for BWW and know most of the mkt. people here) It's certaintly worth a try. I'll keep you posted over at the PA. board.
Have a great weekend! (I'll be in NYC with Gazillion Bubble Show & meeting w/friends tomorrow).

Nope, I'm in NYC this weekend.
Speaking of Annie, nothing could beat the Walnut Street's ANNIE with the beautiful bald-headed Patrick Quinn, RIP.
Enjoy Andreas & Piazza! I'm Elphaba green.

Piazza was never intended for the Forrest. Or am I wrong?
They do offer half price tickets to students. But it's still ridiculous because the students get the cheapest seats in the Peanut Gallery up by the follow spot booth, when the HR and HL seats are almost totally empty!
