From the Daily News...
Why was fix-it vixen Paige Davis abruptly dismissed from TLC's home-swapping hit "Trading Spaces" after three years with the show? One theory is that TLC execs were unhappy over the raunchy striptease she performed at an AIDS research fund-raiser in July - not to mention unproven Internet rumors of a possible homemade sex tape. "I don't know what the story on their end is, but those weren't the conversations I had with TLC," a rep for Davis told Lowdown Monday. "The ratings were going down, and they wanted to try something new. It's an amicable parting, and Paige has the utmost respect for the team on the show. She would love to do more television - she's interested in scripted and nonscripted." Refusing to elaborate, TLC issued a bland statement saying the cable network "is taking 'Trading Spaces' in a new creative direction, making the transition to a 'host-less' format in the spring."

I doubt there is a Paige Davis sex tape. The striptease was for a good cause, that would be so dumb for them to fire her over that.

Oh thank God. The sex tape wasn't of her.

but now I am reading online, it very well could be her. and one guy who saw the tape said she belts out "I Feel pretty" in the shower. Which kind've scares me, since she ususally talks about her love for WSS. goooddd. Paige. I hope it's not you!!

The money raised at the event she performed at was for a good cause. Her decision to perform a striptease, while working as the host of a television show that caters to a mainstream, conservative audience -- probably wasn't the wisest of decisions.
Damn, you have to be so choosy about who you make a sex tape with these days -- right broadwayguy2??

Posted: 1/25/05 at 10:03pmGood God I hope that isnt her in the sex tape. Please don't let it be her. And if it is true that she was fired because of the striptease, it was for a good cause and to raise money so I don't think it should cause TLC to fire her.

Most on-air talent have something in their contracts called a "morality clause." What that means is, a network, station, or production company can fire the talent for doing something questionable that may harm the image of the company or show. Working in television, I've seen stations use this many times as grounds for dismissal. If Paige didn't get approval from her show's management to perform the striptease at Broadway Bares, they can use the clause against her. (The alleged "sex tape" would be a clear violation as well. Even the rumor of one is damaging.)
From what I've been hearing from those "within" is the ratings have been declining and the show was getting stale. The producers began talks on how to revive it. They came to the conclusion to re-brand the show without a host.

Posted: 1/26/05 at 7:45pmYeah I heard it was over the low ratings as well but who knows. Personally I dont think the show will do much better without a host. She brought alot of character and personality to the show so I wouldn't hold my breath for better ratings if I were TLC. Like I said, as long as they don't fire Joe Farrell (the other TS: family host).

Posted: 1/26/05 at 8:34pmWait a minute... A Moralilty Clause. They are doing a show for AIDS? A benefit that will raise millions of dollars for their charity? This is discusting. If Trading Places, did indeed get rid of her for the "striptease" then I will not watch the show ever again. Trading Spaces... You SUCK!

Posted: 1/26/05 at 8:36pmI agree completely. Even if there was a morality clause, its not as though Paige Davis got drunk at a club and started doing some kind of striptease to appease whoever. She was doing it to raise money for the terminally ill. It was a good cause. All I have to say is that if that was the reason for firing her then TLC just made one of the worst mistakes. After all alot of people watch trading spaces just because Paige was on the show.

Praise Jesus BraodwayStar.
Maybe now Paige can get her change on Broadway.
I am thinking she would be great in Sweet Charity... Thouroughly Modern Millie... So many roles!

You all have to look at both sides of the issue here. The management at TLC (Paige's bosses) could care less about Broadway Bares and its fundraising efforts. All they care about is bringing in advertising at TLC. "Trading Spaces" is their cash cow. If Paige, or any of their other on-air talent, do something "questionable," they risk tarnishing their show -- therefore losing advertising revenue for the company.
TLC caters to a mostly female, mid-American, conservative audience. Betty in CoonRidge, Tennessee wouldn't like her favorite make-over star out stripping. She might even quit watching the show. Multiply Betty several times. When advertisers see this loss in the ratings, they will start to pull their commercials, resulting in less money at TLC. Plus, the lower your ratings are, the less advertisers will dish out for a 30-second spot.
I think like most of you on here and applaude Paige's efforts at Bares. (It's still not confirmed this is even the reason her contract wasn't renewed.) Just keep in mind... Paige's striptease wasn't for a "good cause." The money raised from the selling of tickets TO the Bares performance is what was for a "good cause." Paige's star power was used to help sell tickets. She has a name that could be billed and help to bring in money. She could have worn a skimpy dress and performed a song or two and the event would have raised the same amount of money.
Morality clauses are a big thing in on-air talent contracts. Trust me, I know. It just floors me that some of you don't see there are two sides to this issue. After all, it's Show BUSINESS. The folks at Broadway Cares care about raising money for HIV and AIDS. The folks at TLC care about their bottom dollar, and if Paige or anyone else gets in the way of TLC making a buck -- they're gone.

Posted: 1/26/05 at 9:38pmI don't think the striptease is the issue here. It's the sex tapes. I'm a little upset, if they are real. Paige never really came off "whorey" too me. The videos are near pornographic from what they say. I just hope they don't hurt her career.

Posted: 1/26/05 at 9:51pmI think Trading Spaces will have to do more than go "host-less" to change things up and boost ratings. With shows like "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"? How can they compete. It's not a novelty anymore to see a home makeover on a $1,000 budget (and their home-made accessories) when Extremem Makeover's budget allows for the real deal (complete with the coolest high-tech inventions you could ask for.) Unfortunately, I used to watch Trading Spaces, and the pace is just too slow. I'll admit to turning over to Extreme Makeover. It's just a little more exciting.

Its true with shows like Extreme Makeover: Home edition, Trading Spaces has little competition. Trading Spaces had its glory year or two and now they are trying everything to get it back (new format, international travel etc) but to no avail. Somehow I don't think going host-less will help in the least. I'm not trying to be pessimistic but I just think that Trading Spaces has come to the end of its tether. If some notice, alot of the designers from the show are now in the process of filming or premiering newer and more fresh series because I think they know that Trading Spaces is going downhill.
And I sincerely hope that it isnt Paige on the sex tape.
