I have read a few things from Brando that said Jessica was not committed to the part like the rest of them, and that Vivien Leigh was the real deal.

Like so many before me, I'll have to say Ethel Merman. I think it is a nice tribute to her that her name appears so often in this thread.
All you all that did she her- lucky dogs!

Tallulah Bankhead
Angela Lansbury in "Gypsy" and "Sweeney Todd"
Gwen Verdon
But above all, Dorothy Loudon. In ANYTHING. What a goddess.

Merman, of course. I might have been able to catch her in a concert or two, but DOLLY closed before I ever got to travel to NYC as a teen.
Mary Martin. I missed the chance to see her -- FREE -- in the awful "Legends" and I regret it to this day.
Bette Davis onstage -- "Night of the Iguana," or "Two's Company" or even "Miss Moffat."
Some legendary performances I have been lucky enough to see:
Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera, and Jerry Orbach in CHICAGO (twice)
Angela Lansbury in GYPSY
Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters in MACK & MABEL
Colleen Dewhurst and Ben Gazzara in VIRGINIA WOOLF
The original cast of LES MIZ
Anne Baxter in APPLAUSE (my first Broadway show)
Hal Holbrook in KING LEAR, UNCLE VANYA and DEATH OF A SALESMAN
Olympia Dukakis in MOTHER COURAGE
Piper Laurie in THE CHERRY ORCHARD
Kevin Kline and Blythe Danner in MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Posted: 1/3/08 at 6:25pmI'm only 4 years too late, but I would've really liked to have seen Kristen and Idina in Wicked. I only saw the show for the first time this past Oct. while it was on tour here in Boston. I always thought that maybe they'd return one day, but then I thought to myself "OBC members may only come back if the show dips in its grosses" and uh Wicked isnt going anywhere for a while so there goes that.
