Past dating tickets

I have a ticket to a show that a friend couldn't use this past week. Would like to try to past date this at the theater. Will I need ID or the original credit card? Has anyone ever done this for a ticket that doesn't have their name on it? The show has plenty of availability so hoping the theater will honor it.

If it's a Telecharge show, the box office will hand you a sheet of paper with a number to call.  I've always had to show an ID when I picked up a past dated ticket.
