Patrick Wilson is an amazing "live" singer. He did get a Tony nomination for Full Monty and Oklahoma. He has the stage "x" factor. He's currently on stage with Amanda Peet in "Barefoot in the Park" at the Cort Theater and after the Phantom movie, he was quite busy with film projects: Alamo, Hard Candy, Little Children, American Gothic, Peter Running with Scissors, IRS Agent Purple Violets, etc. As you can see, he's concentrating on the film arena.

Senility :) I was in the midst of the update of my post when you replied right away. How can one forget the Barefoot project.

If he were to go on as Raoul, he would be considered a Replacement in it. I would think he is probably only going to take original roles for the rest of his career.

Patrick has said that he always thought he had become too old to play Raoul and was pleasantly surprised when the movie offer was made. Of course, the role in the film is much more "fleshed out" than in the stage version.

He also wants to be flexible enough with his schedule to work on a variety of projects.

He's now "lead" in "Barefoot in the Park".

He also has the "lead" in two upcoming films: "Hard Candy" (April 2006) and "Little Children"--with Kate Winslet & Jennifer Connelly (Dec 2006).

He's also part of an ensemble work "American Gothic" (no release date set) and makes a cameo as an IRS agent in "Running with Scissors" (Sep 2006). Patrick also just completed a film with Ed Burns (who wrote, acted and directed)called "Purple Violets" which also stars Selma Blair and Debra Messing.

He's a busy guy in both film and stage media.

I think it's sort of... if he's done it on film -- a performance now preserved forever -- maybe he wants to do other stuff rather than do the same role on stage.

I can't believe people will look for almost any reason to label a "diva."

The role as it exists in the theatrical production is WAY beneath him and his talents.

That's a good idea, but I would pay thru the nose to see Emmy Rossum step onto the stage role...maybe in Las Vegas.

Patrick said that he never cared for the stage role of Raoul and saw him as kind of weak. For the film, they made the character more masculine and gutsy with sword fights, etc because Patrick didn't want to do it. I would love to see him play the Phantom. I think he would be amazing.

He made a fine Raoul, though hundreds of hormonal teenyboppers love to trash him because Ohmigawd Gerard is SOOOOOOOO HOTTTTT!!!!!111111

Out of the three leads, he's the only one who could sing!
