Just got this news alert and figured some folks were thinking of going down to see him in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. I wonder what movie he will be doing. It must be starting soon...
Here's the snippet:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Patrick Wilson has pulled out of the Kennedy Center's production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," one of the major attractions of "2004 Tennessee Williams Explored," the Center's upcoming celebration of the playwright.
Wilson, who appeared on Broadway in the most recent revival of "Oklahoma!" and in the television adaptation of Tony Kushner's "Angels in America," was to have played Brick, the dissolute ex-football hero and husband of Maggie. The actor left to do a movie, Paul Bilyeu, a Kennedy Center spokesman, said Thursday. A replacement is being sought.

I saw that production and as long as Frances O'Connor doesn't get to do Maggie it will be ok....LOL
I really like her in films, but she was all wrong for Maggie.
Will have to think about the recasting for Brick
Its too bad about Wilson.....hope its a good movie, at least
I was so looking forward to seeing him back on stage! Hopefully he'll be doing something good... though I'm extremely disappointed. I was planning on going down to see him. ![]()
Beacon, check your PM.... I wrote you back.
i was going to go too (loved angels in america, but who didnt?)
paul newman was so fantastic in the movie, and i really think that patrick wilson was down right ideal for the role when i read that, i bet he would have been great.
what about... this is a long shot, and he is way too busy to do it, but jude law did start in the theatre.

Mary Stuart Masterson is playing Maggie.
I'm so bummed. I was trying to scrape together all my pennies so I could finally see Patrick in person. Won't someone please grab him by his pants and bring him back to Broadway for just a little bit!
Guess I'll have to settle for seeing him on the big screen in "The Alamo" which opens April 9th.

I'm afraid TSMrW is "going Hollywood". Another terrific actor bites the dust!
Ohh man I'm soooo sad!! Luvtheemcee and I were gonna take a roadtrip to go see him! I can't believe he's ditching us to do more movies!!
He needs to come back to theatre NOW!

I'm very disappointed that I won't be seeing Wilson as Brick. But I was wondering how he would play against Masterson's mature Maggie. I hope they go a little older with Brick. Having a late 30s Maggie and Brick might make their story more moving than having them as a young pretty couple.

It is obvious that TSMrW is chosing Hollywood over live theater. If that's the case, I am no longer a fan of his.
I HATE MOVIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy God! I can not believe what I just read! DP, shall I call a doctor? Oh someone get in touch with TSMrW and tell him he is about to lose his biggest (and sweetest
) fan!
No loss there. You know he's my favorite...NOT.
don't be dissing Patrick, he's an amazingly talented sweet guy, and i'm sure there was a good reason. you guys all know he's playing Raoul in the Phantom movie, right?

Maybe he's put the stage work on some sort of rotation in his career?
Like: first do a couple of Tony-nominated stage roles, do a Golden-Globe Nominated role in an HBO feature film/miniseries, do three big screen feature film roles (The Alamo, The Phantom of the Opera, and this new one) then back to the stage for a season?
Other performers move back and forth, right? (she asked hopefully.) I mean, that's real versatility in the craft, right? (she said, thinking of Nathan Lane, John Lithgow, Richard Kind, Bebe Neuwrith, and many others, etc.)
It's just the waiting... (crosses her fingers)

I'm very disappointed that I won't be seeing TSMrW in DC. I don't care for too many movies, either. Hopefully he'll come back to Broadway one day.
Thanks, beacon, for alerting us.
Dolly, you said what I was being too nice to say, but I did tell beacon in a PM. I do think he's going "Hollywood" and that theater is losing one of its most talented actors. The fact that he's given up such a fantastic stage role seems to confirm that. But beacon's last post was certainly optimistic.... I guess we can hope for that.
Let's hope he can make some major bucks now.

...everytime I lament a stage actor doing a film, I try & remind myself of something Sir Ian said a long, long time ago. He said he had regrets about not making films when he was much much younger, because he had no filmed record of his work.
Let us just hope Patrick will work both mediums, make some good films, return to the stage constantly. The English Actors such as Fiennes can manage, Pryce works onstage & on screen, Pacino does theater (though I wish he would do more)
My one nasty remark is Gawd Forbide sitcom work
May the films be quality work
I also saw the London production and I didn't like Frances at the beginning, but warmed up to her after the first couple of scenes. The rest of the cast were stunning. I never imagined Brendon Fraser as Brick, but he was perfect for the role. I was kind of surprised he's not in the current production.
As for Patrick, if the offers from Hollywood are coming in, I don't blame him for making the switch. He probably would like to actually live comfortably, which isn't going to happen on a Broadway paycheck until he hits the "star" status. I was quite surprised to hear that Dollypop hates movies, though. When did that happen?

...I was pleasantly surprised how well Fraser did

Here's the playbill link of the announcement. It sounds a bit less capricious than the original AP release which was quite blunt.

I'm dying to know what movie it is and if it's another "period" piece. His last stage work "Oklahoma," and his film work "The Alamo", and "Phantom" fall into that category. Heck, even "Angels in America" was set 20 years ago. Hmmm.
And, when he does return to Broadway (of course he will), I wonder if it will be in a non-musical role! After all, he still is appearing April 4 in L.A. in the Actor's Fund Benefit Reading of "Sunset Boulevard" (original version, not ALW's musical.)
