re: Patti LuPone compared to Sutton Foster in this year's Tony Awards

Sutton does what Sutton did in MILLIE, but to a lesser extent. She charms, she dances, she kicks, she belts, she winks, and she charms some more. Nothing new. Simple part.

Kelli O'Hara is proving to be the most versatile younger actress that we have...her transformation into Babe is extraordinary.

I agree Munk. I still think its fascinating that Sutton has been nominated for all 3 of her starring shows on Broadway. I don't think Chita will win. She maybe be great, but she was in a rather lackluster show. I think LaChanze will get over looked because she just hasn't been talked about a lot. I think Patti will most likely win - though I disagree - because her role was the most shocking and the talked about of all of them. And she receieved great reviews for it. And the production is groundbreaking.

I don't think there should be any speculation as to who will win Best Actress or Best Feautred Actress...I feel confident in saying that both Patti LuPone and Beth Leavel are locks.

IMO if the sutton wasnt up against such strong competition shed have the tony for she is wonderful in this. I must say what really bothered me is u said its like crash beating brokeback mountain for best picture. That was a given as is Patti winning the best actress tony.

That was a given? I don't think ANYBODY thought Crash would win. IMO, it was the best film of the year. It was flat out brillance, but I thought Brokeback was going to win because of the contreversy and how landmark of a film it was.

Don't EVEN get me started on the Oscars. Granted, that's an entirely different thread, but Crash was NOT better than Brokeback. And the fact that Crash won was a huge slap in the face for film....IMO

Umm, actually, Brokeback didn't deserve to win either, but Crash was better than it.

Anyway, The lead actress category will be either Lupone or Lachanze. Any discussion of the other three is irrelevant (not taking anything away from them, they just have no chance of winning this year).
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

I think Sutton is the least likely of winning. I have seen all nominated actresses this year, some multiple times, and it is certainly a race between Patti and LaChanze. However, if it comes down to another one of these threads, just refer to one that was done recently regarding the competition of the two

Sutton has the Show Off number, which she performs brilliantly, but beyond that, the role is dry. I think O'Hara is much more worthy. Above her, Chita's lifetime achievement role. Above that, Ms. LaChance. Leaving...

Beth Leval gives a wonderful drowsy performance, but I question the lock in the feature role.

I would love to see Sutton or Kelli win just so that all those "LaChanze or Patti is going to win and no one else has a shot" comments could be shot down! I mean, how do you know? You don't... you just don't... weirder things have happened, people!

Personally, I want Kelli to win... just because she's cute and adorable and she hasn't won yet even though she has played two fabulous roles. Superficial? Yes! Not based off of the actual performance? Absolutely. But that's who I want to win, so I don't really care what y'all have to say re: Patti LuPone compared to Sutton Foster in this year's Tony Awards And with all this division between Patti and LaChanze, it's *possible* that it could work against both with Kelli emerging as the winner. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Chita could very well get the Tony...
She is a broadway legend and adored by many...

The show might have not been perfect (very few shows are these days)..but her performace was flawless...

She sang, danced and delivered her lines brilliantly..

I vote for Chita..

Sutton must just be excited that she's bee nominated for her last 3 broadway shows. That's a pretty good track record. And after watching LaChanze on Regis and Kelly, I want her to win SO BAD. She's got such a great story, personality, voice, and she's so interesting to watch.
