I saw Patty Duke in FOLLIES too and the nite I saw it, she was wonderful in both the acting (a given) and the singing and dancing.

Yes at the Wadsworth Theater(The REPRISE Series)June 2002.
I agee I thought the production was very well put together. It was similar in some ways to the Encore Series that is in NYC.
I wish I was going to see Patty Duke in GYPSY but I guess I will have to wait for the DVD or her coming to Broadway ![]()

I don't think there's much that Patty CAN'T do. I think she needs a good director who will give her some guidance, and I think she gets stuck in inferior material sometimes.
But she has been a favorite of mine for more years than I care to think about...I think I even got a picture from her when I sent her a letter during her series!
Anyway...I know Lucie Arnaz did Mama Rose, and Lorna Luft has done Mama Rose, in regional productions, but for some reason, the thought of Patty doing it is more exciting. It must be a trip for her to be a monster of a mother pushing her kids into show business - kind of like she got pushed - and if you listen to the out takes on her music CD, her singing was not that bad. And that was many years ago! I don't think any producer or musical director or director would send someone out who is unprepared or who couldn't do a role! Why risk a whole production?
ANYWAY...if anyone sees her, please post!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I heard that Patty Duke is ill (with a bad cold) and that this weekend's performances of GYPSY in Washington State has been cancelled. I am surprised that there is no understudy (though no one could take the place of Ms. Duke)

Posted: 10/12/03 at 4:48amSaw La Duke in Follies out here in Los Angeles. She was embarrasingly bad. Couldn't sing it. I felt so bad for her.

I too saw Patty Duke in "Follies" in LA and she was okay in the last show I saw, but during the first and second preview she had a little trouble with some of the lyrics - granted, Phyllis' "Lucy & Jessie" isn't the easiest song to sing. I do give her credit for trying such a hard role her first time in a musical, but sadly I think she was a little miscast.
And I saw her in "Oklahoma!" too and she was okay in that role. She is a great actress, though and acted the heck out of both parts.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this is the last weekend
for GYPSY starring Patty Duke as Mama Rose. Did anyone on the list get to see any of her performances?
Ok lets keep our fingers crossed that when Ms. Peters leaves
GYPSY (on Bway) Ms. Duke will take over
