Paula Vogel's INDECENT at the Vineyard

Apologies if there is already a thread on this that I couldn't find. I can't recommend Paula Vogel's INDECENT enough. It is really one of the most remarkable things I've seen recently. A deeply theatrical and heartfelt piece that uses the controversial play THE GOD OF VENGEANCE as a springboard to look at art, censorship, and theatre as survival. It's sort of a Jewish SHUFFLE ALONG, but I think a lot more focused in purpose and much simpler (in a good way) in execution. Also some queer elements. Just wonderful stuff. That Vogel's plays have not appeared on Broadway is preposterous. It runs through June 19th. Has anyone else seen it?

I agree also! Beautiful play and production. And I ALSO was reminded of Shuffle Along, though I preferred Indecent's storytelling style more.

I really liked this, as well. Very well-directed... the opening sequence is stunning (and then chillingly echoed later). A brilliant way to revive the Yiddish theatre and illuminate a largely-forgotten part of theatre history that saw the intersection of sexuality and immigrant.
