I'm pretty sure you can get bar seating still on the night-of. They don't sell that in advance. I'll try tomorrow night and let you know if it's possible to still do bar seating.

I saw Woody Allen at the Carlyle recently in addition to Paulo, the people there for the Bar seats line up quite early,at least by 6:00 .Its basically first come first served basis for a seat.

You have a great time. The Times review was great and all I can say is I sure hope he will be back in the Fall since I will be in San Francisco when he is at Carnegie Hall. All who are going tonight have a great time you will not be diappointed. Just love this guy to distraction.

Eileen, Paulo will be starring in 'Manon' at the Met Opera next fall -winter.It is rumoured to be one of the operas that also will be shown in movie theaters as part of their Live in HD from the Met.So if you miss Carnegie Hall you will have other chances.I don't know the dates for these performances yet but you can keep checking the Met. website. Also I think they sell dvds of those performances

Just got back from tonight's concert. It was fantastic. I am so glad I sprung to get to see him sing "Gigi" again. Now if only he'd record it so I could listen to it on repeat. And listening to him sing "This Nearly Was Mine" again reminded me how much I miss South Pacific. If you haven't gone yet and are on the fence, GO this weekend!
Edit: Eileen, could you tell me more about this Carnegie Hall show? I can't seem to find anything about it!

Oh My God!
I just came back from The Carlyle and I am still in heaven.
I actually "talked"to him after the show !! He was just there ...
He is SO handsome and charming but what I really admire about him is his generosity. He made me cry, dance, smile and I left the Cafe so happy. ( I don't really do all that, usually...)
Thank you Paulo.
Don't ever leave New York.
I wasn't sure if I could trust the NYTimes review but they were right.
This guy is a dream...

So glad you got to the Carlyle tonight, and enjoyed yourself. I do not know much about this Carnegie Hall performance on 5/19 except what I read here. It is with the Collegiate Chorale (?). Look back on this thread someone mentioned it then I googled it. Again glad you went, it was a a great show.

I feel exactly the same way......Many here are hoping for a CD which would be great but I am hoping he will be starring in the film remake of SOUTH PACIFIC.If someone else gets the part of Emile it will be a travesty

I had heard a little here and there that South Pacific might in fact be coming back to the big screen. I agree if they did not cast this man in the role of Emil DeBecque it would be a travesty and a very idiotic move. I was a very young child when the film orignally came out and I adored it and over the years I would watch it here and there when possible and it always stayed in my heart but at some point I just tucked it away in my memories. If it weren't for a friend who hounded me to go see this I would never have given it a chance. It was Rossano Brazzi's role and that was it. How foolish this old broad was, my heart melted when I saw this talented beautiful performer and not only had I tucked memories away but I tucked my heart away. I would love to see him release a CD, I have songs in my mind that I would love to hear him sing. Didn't mean to ramble on but I have found one thing that living in a box is no good so now I have made up my mind that I will see Szot when ever he comes to NY of course then again I haven't missed a Stones tour in 46 years. My tastes are extreme and when I am passionate about something I am extreme.

Can anyone who saw Paulo Szot at Cafe Carlyle answer
- how long was the show?
- was there any word about when he might be back?
- was there any word about a CD?
Thanks

No word about when he'd be back or a CD. I think it lasted around an hour, if I remember correctly.

Douglas Hodge was there last night.
Paulo hugged him on his way out.
(They were supposed to be together in "La Cage", originally)

Douglas Hodge is going to perform at Cafe Carlyle for 2 weeks in March, per Cafe Carlyle site.
A previous poster suggested Paulo Szot might return to Cafe Carlyle when he'd be in New York to perform in Manon at the Met. The Met's schedule came out today, Manon is scheduled to begin performances on March 29, 2012 (it will be shown in HD live)
