So I went to the midnight show of Perez Hilton Saves the Universe last night (which didn't start until 12:45... wah wah.) Well, none other than Perez Hilton showed up and sat right in the center. He was laughing really loud and loving it. There were a lot of things that would have gotten bigger laughs if he weren't actually there, but it really made for a hilarious atmosphere to watch a show in!!!

I loved this show and I really hope it gets transferred... it would be good as a late night kind of thing and could really be the next Rocky Horror. People were so participatory, I thought they'd start yelling out the lines. (Like 5 people around me all said "it's Britney, bitch" with the actress... it was hilarious.)

Perez is apparently seeing a lot of shows this week while he's in New York. Glad he got to see this!

Perez is quite the Broadway Baby. He usually has a lot of Broadway stuff on his blog.

This is a show looking for a concept, IMHO.
What it has going for it is Randy Blair who was born to play Perez.
I saw Blair in ADD1NG MACH1NE and he was brilliant.
If the writers give a visionary or new director a chance to exploit the show it could be a small cult show.
Not that Conner Gallagher (directer/choreographer) doesn't do a good job, but he needs a bigger budget and a free er hand to shape the material.
The costumes should be funny and broader and they were just messy and there was no set except for Matt Steinbrenner's comical projections.
I thought the real Perez would love it cause it actually makes him kinda human.

ha, when he mentioned that he was in New York I hoped that he would see it!

For what it's worth, I loved the show, especially the music. My friends and I now say "Are you Jonathan Taylor Thomas working at the Olive Garden?" all the time

Nancy Reagan, meanest and thinnest of the first ladies moves into the white house. Yabba dabba! It's the eighties.

I assumed Perez was there at the closing show because my facebook newsfeed alerted me this morning of Andrew Keenan-Bolger's new profile pic which was definitely a shot of the actual Perez feeling up Andrew's shockingly ripped torso. Not that I just randomly add Broadway people on facebook or anything...ummmm.

As for the show, I'm glad it's getting all the buzz it deserves. I agree with BobRandonGuyMan that it would work in the cult vein of The Rocky Horror Show. I didn't get a chance to see it when it transfered theaters, but I saw one of the early performances at the Bleecker St. I posted my review in the Fringe Festival Buzz thread. I enjoyed it immensely, especially the performances by Randy Blair & Laura Jordan. I would guess that Perez would have enjoyed it. It certainly pokes fun at him but I thought it really made an interesting point about the cyclical, vicious nature of celebrity. They need him to keep them in the news just as much as he needs them to be hot messes.

Haha... "are you Jonathan Taylor Thomas working at the Olive Garden" cracks me up too, especially with the projection. I love how they put those projections up that are like Perez's blog, pretty funny.

I agree that it could have better production values and be reworked a bit, but I don't think they had much time or money to work it at the Fringe. Hopefully someone will throw some cash at them!

My friend took me to this last night and we couldn't believe Perez was actually there! It was so exciting! We also couldn't believe we were watching a musical at 1 in the morning, but it still was so funny, we were dying of laughter. This show is so original and crazy, it makes most of the other musicals I've seen this year look pretty lame.

he's not a real Broadway fan...he pretends to be the way that most Queens do...yet he didn't know Sara Ramirez was a Broadway alum and shat on her for coming out with an album, and was like "What's up with actors thinking they can sing?" and he had never seen Gypsy before until this past weekend...or ANY Patti Lupone musical performance.

He's a faker.

Je veux,

So what if he's not a "real" Broadway fan? He's giving a lot of shows a lot of press by talking them up on his blog and um, Broadway gets little to no respect in popular culture, so the fact that someone as popular and relevant as Perez is talking about theatre is a good thing for the industry. Crucify him for not being a "true" theatre fan all you want, but the elitist attitude is so laughable coming from people in a business that so desperately need good P.R., especially from the likes of Perez Hilton.
