While I do think the score of Fun Home is way beyond what we usually hear on Broadway, I'm in agreement that Jason Robert Brown has to be stopped. Both Bridges and Honeymoon were subpar, and the Last Five Years film brought all of the glaringly bad material in that score under a microscope. I haven't heard anything specific about the show, but I would see Hank Azaria in anything. Same goes for McGrath and Kritzer. Wonder if the reason they bypassed Goodspeed has anything to do with Azaria?

While I saw this production and quite frankly thought it sucked, I also find it hilarious that Scott Schwartz is being roasted on this board because he's not a "real director." OK, sure. Readings come first. There are two different types: table reads and staged readings. A table read is just what it sounds like - actors sitting around the table and reading the text. There is generally little rehearsal. Maybe a music rehearsal or two if it's a musical, or some private sessions. For those that are wary of performance art, I highly recommend seeing Taylor Mac's show at Joe's Pub this weekend. He's weird, but very accessible, and Lily's Revenge was one of the best pieces to play in New York in quite some time.

The US tour actually was the Cameron Mackintosh staging and script, scaled down for touring. It was probably the best non-Equity tour I've seen. I still have no idea why a) they didn't bring this production in, and b) why they don't license this version, which is far better than the original.

BDC is really crowded. Make sure to check the boards at all the rehearsal studios (Ripley Greer, etc.) as they sometimes offer good beginner classes not affiliated with a bigger dance studio. (And are cheaper!)

I don't know if this counts, but I'm really looking forward to Ryan Scott Oliver's Peter Pan adaptation, "Darling." I'm a total nerd for the demos out there.

On one hand, I'm excited to see this show because I missed it at the Vineyard and am curious about the "lost" Kander and Ebb musical. But on the other hand, I saw Curtains. Wah wah.

Dude, I saw it. It was my senior year. And it was insane. Especially the part where everyone took communion off of Alex Brightman's naked body.

It didn't specifically take place inside an insane asylum. There was some convoluted explanation of the set and why they were bald in the program, but insane asylum it wasn't. You must be getting this one confused with the production of South Pacific that Anne Bogart directed at NYU that took place in a veteran's hospital! (Which was way more successful than Hair, FYI.) As far as the show goes, not a lot landed, but it looked cool and there were some great arrangements of the songs.

Heathurr2, AKB's blog says it's Randy Blair who wrote Perez Hilton at the Fringe this year. Dunno if he reads BWW, but if so, good work. :)
