I knew this was a horrible idea...

Predictable.
Not the casting or the fact they are making it a show...
...BoB's comment
That has to be a joke....90210 goes to the London stage. I admit I loved him...when I was in the 8th grade a looong time ago. Geez, they should have cast Shannon Doherty instead of Allyson Hannigan...ha, ha. Well it should be interesting to hear the reactions to his performance.

You know- I aim to be predictable.
But seriously...why?!!?
Let me begin by saying that When Harry Met Sally is my favorite romance movie. I was hesitant when I first heard of a stage version being made, as there is nothing that even identifies with the stage in the movie. But I didn't reject it until I heard this news....LUKE PERRY!?! Come on people. Luke Perry in comparison to Billy Crystal. Either they are recreating the characters completely or the casting director, producers, etc. are complete idiots. Last time I checked this movie was a romantic comedy...when was Luke Perry even remotely funny?

Nice to see that Disney isn't the only one putting second and third rate movies on stage.
When Harry Met Sally is a bore of a film, a total Woody Allen knockoff, and the play will be just as dull.
On the other hand, the play won't feature Billy Crystal, which can only be a plus.
I've never seen either of these two actors, so I really have nothing to say about either performer. I'm not going to bash them before they even start. I'm sure they were picked for a reason. And neither one is a huge star that they would use as star power to draw attention. I wish them luck.

Alyson Hannigan will be excellent. I'm glad she's getting a chance to show her range. I always thought she'd be great with live theater, she's so effervescent and expressive. I wanted her to be the lead in Proof, but unfortunately that never could have happened.

Hun Luke Perry is a pretty big draw. Tons of people know who he is. 90210 used to be a big deal...do you know what it was?

My flatmae going to the second preview tonight so I will post if he liked it..
I might see it if I can get a free-bie
After getting to see Luke in RH in 2001, the guy can't sing at all...but was a lot of fun to watch. The audience loved him, he couldn't have been nicer to talk with, and while I don't see him in this role...he does indeed have a name that people remember.
So...Lee...if you get to see the show, let us know how it is!
Roscoe - How do Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King qualify as second and third rate movies? Both received critical acclaim. Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever to be nominated for Best Picture. Both received numerous awards for their music. The animation was top-notch when they were released and both are still popular today as films and stage productions.
When Harry Met Sally is one of my all-time favorites. I'm also unclear of how it qualifies as a "Woody Allen knockoff". Other than being located in New York, it really features none of Allen's signatures. The characters don't continually speak over each other or discuss politics, therapy, masturbation, or literary and psychological history. There's no elevated yuppie speech among the characters. Nothing resembles Dorothy Parker round table discussions or hippie political idealism. I'm a fan of Woody Allen films, but I find it increasingly difficult to force myself to rent his latest features when they're released.
I used to watch 90210 all the time, hun. But I don't think he's a big a theatre star as Nathan Lane or Matthew Broderick who would really draw in large crowds of people. Or even a movie star like Hugh Jackman. Updated On: 2/11/04 at 03:16 PM
Well, if he's not a HUGE star and he's not talented, then why was he chosen for the lead in a new West End musical??? It's madness, I tell you! MADNESS!!
Well, I didn't see his audition, so I have no idea how well he performed. I've never heard this score, so I don't know how vocally demanding it is. I haven't interviewed the producers, so I'm not sure if he was cast for his star power. So darn it, I'll just have to reserve judgement until I have seen him in the show to comment on his performance in it and the show itself. All those with psychic abilities may feel free to give us their detailed reviews of the show and its performers. Be sure to cite specific references to the book and score. I really want to know what you thought of the scenic design and don't worry about spoilers, I want to hear it all.
Sheesh!
Someone like say a Paul Williams would be a wonderful Harry. He is compact, has tiny hands and feet and can survive for weeks on just a moist towelette and some lint. He like a church mouse but with a set of pipes that could blow your ever-lovin' panties right off. Listen to the "Rainbow Connection" demos and tell me that I am wrong.
