Phantom DVD Question
Phantom DVD Question#1
Posted: 2/10/12 at 12:13pmThis is a question for anyone who's received their DVD here in the States. Seeing the brief clips on Universal's website as well as here and hearing the songs transposed has made me rather nervous. So what I want to know is, does the score sound like it's been transposed on the DVD or is it just the clips? 'Cuz the same thing happened with the Joseph and JCS DVDs that Universal and Really Useless put out.
Phantom DVD Question #2
Posted: 2/10/12 at 12:17pmI don't know if this answers your question, but I saw the film live (I do have the DVD and will watch it probably this weekend-it just arrived). It didn't sound transposed (and I've seen the show several times and am very familiar with the score).
Phantom DVD Question #2
Posted: 2/10/12 at 12:22pmWell, yeah, I saw the film too but I don't know if the region conversion screwed things up or not.
Phantom DVD Question #3
Posted: 2/10/12 at 1:39pmMight be the region conversion. All of RUG's direct-to-video stage productions sound like they're in the normal keys on TV and in other situations, but the songs sound like they've been transposed lower (NTSC is 5% slower than PAL).
Phantom DVD Question #4
Posted: 2/10/12 at 2:04pmI never realized that regional conversion can screw with the sound. I have the CD (which I am aware has no region code) of the Royal Albert Hall performance, and the entire thing sounds like it did when I saw it in movie theatres.
Phantom DVD Question #5
Posted: 2/10/12 at 2:39pmI noticed on the CD that track 1 (prologue) was incredibly low.
Phantom DVD Question #6
Posted: 2/10/12 at 2:49pmYeah but region conversion wasn't a problem for the Les Miserables concert at the O2. And to be fair, the clips they have on Universal's website of the O2 concert are also in different keys.
