There have been pictures for a while. This was posted in various Phantom forums in February. I believe it's from Entertainment Weekly.

Phantom: Las Vegas Spectacular...90 minutes? I don't know. I was never a huge fan of this show, and God knows it could use some trimming, but to cut over an hour of a show, particularly one that ran for so long just seems tacky.
Kind of like the Reader's Digest Condensed Novels...can't really say you read the book after only reading 2/3 of what the author actually wrote. I assume with the word "Spectacular" in the title they will cut out all the book scenes and just concentrate on the chandelier, masquerade and the lair. Come to think of it, doesn't Masquerade last about 90 minutes all by itself?

Posted: 5/27/06 at 3:40amI heard that every single song will be remaining in the show, so I'm guessing some versus are just cut.

Posted: 6/3/06 at 10:08pmHave you read the name of it (according to The Broadway Pulse)? Phantom: The Las Vegas Spetacular. All I have to say it this: what complete and utter crap. (Not to mention that "Phantom" is a completely different show.)

Posted: 6/4/06 at 4:59pmI wonder if the June 12th delay could be - possibly, hopefully - really so Harold Prince could fly back for the Tonys on the 11th to get his award in person? I think that would be great.

Posted: 6/4/06 at 5:05pmI read it in that PhansLink provided above, that Harold Prince will be receiving the award at the Venetian, if he was to win.

Posted: 6/4/06 at 5:43pmI think shortening the show down to 90 minutes is what needs to be done to the Broadway version, if you ask me...

Posted: 6/7/06 at 8:48pmThe chandelier, was delivered to the theater today . . all four parts of it. It was made here in Vegas, and was quite a sight going down the strip in all four pieces. It won't be long now!

Posted: 6/7/06 at 9:13pmIt has to be finished considering previews start Monday!
re: Phantom Las Vegas#15
Posted: 6/8/06 at 1:31amI don't know how much has changed lately, but the cuts they had made as of about six months ago were very good. It's a verse here and there, and a surprisingly large chunk of Masquerade, and somehow it comes down to 90 minutes without feeling like anything's really missing. The basic structure of combining the two acts is similar to the movie (i.e. the chandelier drops during Don Juan). I know they were planning further changes (one of which I thought was brilliant but I don't know if they went with it), but I really liked what I saw.

Wow, what a great contribution to this thread. Especially the way you managed NOT to explain your reasoning.
I'm excited and hope it does well in Vegas. Is anyone going to any of the previews?

Well my main problem with your comment was that this is not an opinion thread, but rather an information thread. To come in with the intent to simply bash the Las Vegas production is rude and simply uncalled for, especially since it has yet to even premiere and you are not even giving it a chance.

It's the creator's integrity, not the show's... because the show didn't just cut itself.
But obviously their creators approved and established this "version" of their piece...so, I would criticize them more than anything, because after all, it is their play and they can do a 2 minute version for pre-schoolers of it if they wanted.
So, hard to find it disrespectful because the show itself has no feelings, and obviously everyone else approves.

The producers had to turn the entire audience of the invited dress last night AWAY because they didn't have the appropriate permits! So the 1200 invited guests, friends, family, media, whatever, stood out in the lobby and never got to see the show.
It's been a bad week for theater in Vegas.
