Posted: 12/16/04 at 6:43amWhen the hell does this movie officially open in NYC? I keep hearing different things. I was invited to a screening on Tuesday with the Shuberts but I turned it down...stupid move. I really don't feel like waiting until the 22nd. Help, anyone?

Saw the movie today and its totally dubbed in Germany. Unfortunately the German voices of Phantom and Raoul are awful and I always saw the faces of these German persons in my mind. They normally play big roles in musicals but there voices didn't fit. In my opinion the movie is ok, visually superb. But as I don't like the musical so I don't like the movie as much. But I am happy that there is another filmed musical. All in all a nice movie which I have to see again with the original voices.

Posted: 12/18/04 at 3:29amIt's different in Germany. Most filmmusicals are translated in the speaking parts and the songs stay in English and get a subtitle, that's how it was in Moulin Rouge and Chicago. Phantom of the Opera is totally dubbed, so all singing is in German. For collectors of cds it's great, because there are also foreign language soundtracks from the Phantom, like a German, a French, an Italian and a Spanish one.

Posted: 12/18/04 at 7:19amI saw the film here in Switzerland. It's being shown in the original language with German and French subtitles, which tend to be a bit distracting for me. Also, they have an intermission... arghhh.

I wanted to love it but I was really disappointed overall. With the exception of "Masquerade", much of the film is cheese.
