blaxx is right. His last profitable show was Phantom. Aspects lost money. Sunset Blvd lost huge money. Whistle lost money. Beautiful Game lost money. Woman in White lost money.

Well, there's lots to be said for the combination of arrogance, and lots of money to do whatever you want with :) That's how half the things in this world have happened!

And might I add that yes, the show was successful world wide, and people will flock to see what happens...the same was said about Bring Back Birdie and Annie 2: Miss Hannigan's Revenge. And guess what? They didn't.

Don't forget "By Jeeves"!
"Destined to join the ranks of Bring Back Birdie and Annie 2:Miss Hannigan's Revenge."
At least the score of Bring Back Birdie has some decent songs.

^ and probably a better cast.
I woke up this morning and thought it was a nightmare I had that Webber is setting Phantom 2 in Coney Island. Nope, it's real! ARGH!
Someone's sipping the sherry.
Remember the first ten mins of TARZAN were great too.
All I can say is "wow". I keep thinking it's an April Fool's Day joke. Let's just hope Sierra Boggess doesn't waste her time on this (as she was rumored to have done the reading recently).
BobbyBubby-- The exact same thing happened to me not too long ago! And I have had trippy musical dreams before-- like one about a flying production of Hairspray where all the cast members actually fly with wings and Tracy has a dog that sings. And one where Cheyenne Jackson was an alien and ambushed me in a pumpkin patch and cut off my friend's head with a knife while singing "Do You Hear The People Sing," but I won't get into that.

Cindy Adam's recently was a guest of the Nedelander family in London. She reported they (the Nederlanders) were there for a workshop of Andrew Lloyd Weber's sequel to Phantom of the Opera. Someone should remind James Nederlander that he would have the perfect theater for such a production if his father had not sold the Mark Hellinger to the Times Square Church. From all reports the theater is still in perfect shape. Mr. Nederlander should buy back that theater and return it to the
historical venue that housed My Fair Lady, Sugar Babies, etc. I am sure with his contacts in the NY real estate community he could help the church relocate to a more appropriate venue and right the scandal that the sale of the theater remains to this day.

They pretty much pulled the names of those Phantom contenders out of their asses, didn't they? Is there any indication at all they can get a screen star to play this role? Or afford that star after the no-doubt massive amounts of fancy sets and costumes, hydraulics, and other fancy design business they're going to use?
And he says he has his Phantom, but also says the show is going to open in three cities at the same time. Is the actor playing the Phantom going to take Webber's private jet from city to city between performances?
The actors named as posssibles were strictly the Times repeating old rumors. Webber said that they are pretty sure of one Phantom but wouldn't say who.
I hope it is no one I like. I wouldn't want anyone I respected to be associated with this grandiose plan for what I think will be crap musical.
We all know how well sequels have done in the past. What do you think are the chances that this possible triple threat will be anything but a flop?
I agree that making a sequel is a terrible idea. Even worse is giving it a stupid title like "Phantom: Love Never Dies."
In any case, can anyone confirm that John Barrowman will be the Phantom? Evidently he did the latest workshop.
I've said this before on a previous thread on this subject. The ONLY way this show will work is if ALW signs Michael Crawford. And since the show is set ten years later, he could play the role. It sounds a little crazy, but I think it could work. Back when POTO opened, Crawford had a huge following.
I can picture Michael Crawford coming back.
He's a little heavier then when he first played the Phantom but you can blame that on all the hotdogs on Coney Island. Hmmm.

Why ruin the (IMO), perfect ending of Phantom? Just leave it to the imagination of theatergoers.
Can't ALW come up with a totally different idea for a new musical----one that doesn't glom off of the ideal that has been doing so well up until now???

It's my understanding that the London cast will headed by John Barrowman. He's big with the theater goers in London due to his work on TV.

Agreed. Let's start a petition! I think the only way this could work is if Phantom closes on Broadway, the older one. Unless, they do a "Buy One, See The Other (1/2 off)" promotion.
justafan2, he did come up with A LOT of ideas since POTO, it's just that they were all REALLY BAD.
