To answer the question, the 2nd national tour launched in Chicago at the Auditorium Theatre. It played for over 9 months.

I too am a phantom nut. :)

Question, was the touring production of Phantom that played the Pantages Theater (Hollywood, CA) back in late 1997 the second national tour or the third.

Only curious as I first saw the show in London after highschool.
I saw the 1st national tour at LA Ahmanson (LOTs of times, they had a $10 student rush when I was in college, plus once when it got to SF.

I was at the final Halloween night performance of the 3rd national tour at the Pantages.

I also previously saw the show at its first post Ahmanson return to LA at the Pantages, as was curious if I saw all three national tours or #3 twice.

I have to agree with My Oh My, the only differences between the sit down run and the touring is the candelabras come in from the side and near the end, Raul doesn't jump off the ramp into the lake, he runs down the ramp the rest of the way off stage. As for what the backside of the chandelier looks like, if the audience can't see it, who cares. I never noticed a difference.

And for the record, the Vegas production of Phantom is amazing. That chandelier is worth the cost of admission alone.

Maybe someday I'll see it on Broadway.
