For a while I was annoyed by Fonda's toting of her froufrou dog around with her like an advanced aged Paris Hilton.
But now that I see it in these pictures, it's a pretty effin adorable dog.

Why was Jane using a cane?
"Our last Two-show day. My knee went out during the Letterman Show. See, I was supposed to have knee replacement in January but when I accepted to do the play I postponed the surgery and got cortisone shots. You are allowed one shot every three months. The last one was only effective 6 weeks but the doctor said I could get another one to tide me over till the surgery (which has been rescheduled for mid June). Well, it isn?t working anymore and so yesterday I did both shows using a cane the whole time. I managed it well enough so that people who hadn?t seen the show before thought it was part of my character. No one even seemed to wonder why I had a cane for the curtain call. I hate that tonight, our final show, I will be using a cane but, hey, that?s life. And at least I?m playing a character who ends up in a wheel chair and then a gurney."

I am so grateful that I got to see Jane Fonda and her show...It was because of her that a went to Manhattan this year.

Thank you Mr. Midwest!!
I too thought it was kind of strange when I saw Fonda with her dog at the stage door back in previews. But that is one adorable puppy. And I have to say that that's pretty impressive that she decided to forgo knee surgery, instead opting for temporary relief with shots, just so she could do the play. Also, having seen it, it would hardly seem out of character for Katherine Brandt to be using a cane throughout, since even at the start of the play she has been sick for some time.
