Well Jay, aside from a few inspired songs and some nice dance numbers, you'd have to come up with a few more reasons why you think this musical is SO original. I know Im in the minority on this one, but I still can see the Emperor and he's wearing no clothes. What brings in people to New World Stages doesnt always transfer over to larger houses. I doubt ALTAR BOYS ( which is a fantastic production) would succeed as well as it does now in a larger house, as the show is small and works perfectly in the space, My feeling is that ITH should have remained small- But even as such it didnt bring in the numbers. Who knows, stranger things have happened.

I'd have to do some research to back this up, but the 37 Arts isn't exactly a teeny venue. I wish the show the best of luck and can't wait to see it. Like Jay said, nothing is more attarctive than raw talent.

Wow...I can't wait to see this...I'm from Miami and I heard some of the music...it's just as much New York as it is Miami...same way of speaking, everything. I can't wait!!!

I know Im in the minority on this one, but I still can see the Emperor and he's wearing no clothes.

Damn right you are in the minority. Aside from you and a few of your sock puppets, this show has been embraced not only by people on this board who saw it Off-Broadway, but by the critics who saw promise in it Off-Broadway.

My feeling is that ITH should have remained small- But even as such it didnt bring in the numbers.

Commercial Off-Broadway is DEAD. Nothing sells Off-Broadway in a commercial setting anymore. ALTAR BOYZ *still* hasn't recouped its investment after almost three years now.

In addition, every single show that has opened at New World Stages since its inception has flopped.

If you can't fill an Off-Broadway commercial theatre on 50th Street between 8th and 9th, do you really expect to be able to fill a house on 37th between 9th and 10th?

Commercial Off-Broadway is no longer an option to introduce new works to the American musical theatre canon.

Luckily, we have producers today who are willing to take risks on fresh, new works, and nurture them with new artists to help lead to success on Broadway.

SPELLING BEE, AVENUE Q, and SPRING AWAKENING all originated Off-Broadway, and were considered tough sells for Broadway. Some smart producers decided to take some risks though, and all three shows not only went on to win Tony Awards, but they all recouped their investments on Broadway.

So why don't you go trash new pieces of art for *gasp* being DIFFERENT, and tear apart artists for their physical appearance on some Hollywood message board, because unfortunately for you, Broadway sees beyond the surface and doesn't base opinions solely on the superficial.

This board is about celebrating Broadway, not about damning new artists -- who happen to be fulfilling their dreams on Broadway -- simply because some people here never were given the chance to fulfill their own dreams.

Glad to see people endorsing the work of Hispanic authors, actors, and showmen on Broadway. Being Hispanic myself, I really appreciated Jaystarr's post.
Having said that, I do think the show is going to be a tough sell but I still wish it all the success possible. Any show that manages to bring back Priscilla Lopez to Broadway in a musical deserves praises.
As per the look of the cast, I must say that I find the men fairly unattractive--then again I'm not into Latino men--and all the women incredibly gorgeous. Andrea, Mandy, Priscilla, and Olga are all talented, beautiful, sexy, and classy. Wish them all lots of luck on Broadway come February. Wish I could see the first preview but unfortunately I can't stay through the 14th.

Yay! This makes me hope even more that I'll be coming back to the east coast for school, so I can come see this. I think the set looks awesome.

I really hope it does well. I just feel like it's a lot more original than some of the other shows out there. (Not all, obviously, but some.) Sometimes Broadway feels a little cookie cutter and it's nice to see something new and see some "raw talent" as Jaystarr put it.
