So which roles did she end up wearing? It looks like she was playing Rafiki, from the pictures.

Whoopi made three cameos throughout the show:

1) One of the bird women (dressed in white) during the opening number walking down the aisle.

2) Shenzi during the infamous "Mufasa" scene, but she couldn't get the mouth of the hyena puppet to work and flubbed some lines. It worked with her humor. She was onstage with the two other hyenas and the other Shenzi.

3) Rafiki towards the middle and end of the second act when she convinces Simba to return to Pride Rock. She was joined by the other Rafiki... and was hilarious.

She received an overwhelming amount of applause each time she entered and made an exit.

It was my first time seeing the show. Whoopi truly was hilarious... esp as Rafiki.
