re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

hmm...

i've done this with EVERY show i've seen so far, so...

should i listen to the recording AFTER i see the show? b/c, i know that sometimes by listening to the recording, you get used to hearing a certain actor's voice, and then when you see someone else on stage doing it, it kinda makes the whole experience different.

but, then again, that's not true with every show. i've listened to the Wicked recording over and over for the past year or so, and i still haven't see the show. *but*, i love shoshana and megan's voices.

just needed your opinions! sorry if i'm "thread jacking!"

I saw Light in The Piazza for the first time last night and I thought that Aaron Lazar was incredible. It never entered my mind that he is too old to play the part. Where do people get that from? I thought looked Matthew Morrison's age, personally. Even when he came out of the stage door it never crossed my mind that he is old. But anyways, I thought Aaron was phenomenal -- and he was apparantly really sick! He's not going on tonight apparantly. I thought he played the part so well. His Fabrizio was adorable in the way he was so nervous around Clara and how he feared Margaret.

Anyways, I assure you all that Aaron has done a fine job with the role. I never saw Matt in the role, but I do have the recording and I must say that Aaron sounds just as good as Matthew Morrison!

Wow, I hadn't even heard Chris Sarandon was in this until today. I love him in Fright Night and Dog Day Afternoon.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

If all of the original cast members were still there, I would have reccommended that you listen to the recording before... but since some of them did indeed leave, I think it's your decision on whether or not you wish to listen to the recording first. Each of the actors have grown in their roles, so it might be a different experience altogether than the recording. IMO, I would probably watch the show first... only becuase if you listen to the recording [as you mentioned] you expect to hear the voice of the person on the recording... two of which aren't there anymore. comparisons are going to be made regardless, either after you watch the show or before... but maybe it would be easier to watch teh show with an open mind for the newest cast members. Again, this is completely your decision... because I listen to Piazza every day and I never get sick of it, but you wanted to see the show.

Basically... if you aren't seeing the show in the new future, I would reccomend listening to the recording, but if you're planning on going soon... then maybe wait till afterwards. Hope that is more clear cut,
