Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

I already posted this on the "Official Matt Morrison thread"...
but here is the news:

And in case you haven't heard, the replacements for Fabrizio and Signor Naccarelli have been announced. Aaron Lazar, who was seen on B'way in Phantom and Oklahoma, will be stepping into the role of Fabrizio on September 2, and Chris Sarandon, husband of Joanna Gleason, will step into the role of Signor Naccarelli on September 13.

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

He seems kind of old for the part... but I can't seem to find anywhere that says his age. I think they tried to aim for someone that semi-looked like Matt Morrison. I'll probably end up seeing him eventually, but if someone does see him... let us know after Matt leaves.

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

I'll be seeing it in November, but I am sure many of the regulars will be seeing it well before I do.

This has probably been answered elsewhere, but is Matthew leaving to go do another show?

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

He's leaving Piazza to do a play, A Naked Girl on the Appian Way.

This Aaron guy looks way old to play Fabrizio. I'm sad. re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements The only guys I wanted to see play Fab besides Matt are Wayne Wilcox and Gavin Creel. Doesn't this Aaron guy look like Chip Zien?

sorry...

thanks spouzic,

[broadway betty... I remember having a conversation about Adam Guettel being too old to play the role of Fabrizio, and I just dont' understand why they chose Lazar. I'm trying to keep an open mind... until I see him perform. His voice reminds me of Hugh Jackman, which is a good thing, but it doesn't suit the role of Fabrizio. I didn't really have anyone specific that I wanted have to take over the role of Fabrizio, but all I knew was not David Burham. I wonder how good Chris Sarandon is too.]

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

now ladies, I know Matt's amazing and we're gonna miss him in the role- hey I think this new actor looks a bit old too- but I trust the creative team picked him for a good reason- you think Adam would let someone less than wonderful take over the part?

Oh, I'm so sad that Matt is leaving
He was great in Piazza
i fell in love
"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness. Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings. Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end. But end it does. Another part of you vanishes. That's show business."-Anonymous

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

Chris Sarandon is a brilliant actor. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role as Leon in Dog Day Afternoon in 1976. He is 63 years old and used to be married to the actress Susan Sarandon.

thanks pab...

I honestly dont' think I've seen any of his movies, but maybe I've seen him on television or something. Does anyone know why Mark is leaving in the first place?

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

I bet they are both going to be fantastic. Everyone needs to quit the whining and the belly-aching. Everytime someone leaves a cast and gets replaced, every person on this board has a mini-stroke saying that they couldn't possibly be as good as the original. And then, in less than a month, there are half a million I LOVE/LET'S APPRECIATE SAID REPLACEMENT threads. Point-in-case: Every single person who has stepped into Wicked.

I highly doubt they would be given the roles if they couldn't sing/act the part, since Piazza isn't really a show I see going for the stunt casting non-talent types we see all too often on the Broadway stage. Let's see what happens, shall we?

I wasn't really belly-aching... I just wasn't sure. As I said in earlier posts... I'm trying to keep an open mind until I have the chance to see him.

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

Koren, have you seen "The Princess Bride"? Mr. Sarandon played the role of Prince Humperdink. Not a big role, but a GREAT movie. re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

Aigoo... I might have seen bits and pieces of the movie, but I dont' think I have in one sitting. I'll be sure to get the movie sometime to see his performance. I'm bummed about the replacment because I loved Signor Nacarelli's understudy. I didn't realize that Mark was leaving, but anyway... I wanted the understudy to take over. I guess not, so I'll have to see Princess Bride soon.

Thanks for the infor aigoo --korenglish

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

Wow, I know Matt was great in the role, but I didn't realize he had so many die-hard fans. His voice, I agree, was fantastic; however, I just did not find him believable as Italian. He looks so all-American that I kept thinking it was odd that he was speaking in Italian.

I LOVED both replacements. The whole family looks much more like a unit instead of individual actors, and they all look more European, making the Johnsons seem all that much more American. The new Fabrizio looked and sounded wonderful. Chris Sarandon seemed to be missing some beats, but I'm sure that will come with time. Sarah's understudy was wonderful as well. If they didn't have a note in the program, I never would have known it wasn't her!

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

I hope I get to see the replacements and all the original cast members when I go see the show again! I'm excited!

Random input: I saw Chris Sarandon on TV yesterday night. I was watching the 100 most quotable movie quotes, and he was one of the commentors. As was BSM.

re: Piazza [Fabrizio and Signor] replacements

I saw it yesterday - first time so I have no comparison to Matt Morrison, but Aaron Lazar was quite good - and didn't look too old for the role at all. "Il Mundo Era Vuoto" was GORGEOUS, but Passeggiata, my favorite song in the show, didn't have the oomph it does on disc. Chris Sarandon was OK - didn't really stand out, and Let's Walk didn't have the pep it does on the CD.

Victoria Clark and Kelli O'Hara were AWESOME though.

Still, I didn't like this show as much as I liked Spelling Bee which I saw last night...
