Pippin Question
#1Pippin Question
Posted: 8/21/07 at 9:38pmOk, we're doing Pippin this year for our musical at my high school, and I don't know whether I should audition for the role of Pippin or The Leading Player. The singing isn't a problem, as I can sing both roles. I want to know the pros and cons of each part. If anyone is familiar with the show or has been in a production of it, your input is welcome.

Our Pippin kinda looked like he had a third nipple.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
And he was not good with his shirt off.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

It was..hmm..if you're facing each other, it's lower than both of the nipples but more towards the left side of his body. So it's like..southwest of the real nipple.

Maybe that would explain them wanting to cast Mark Wahlburg in the revival

Hell yes he did.
Third nipples make the man. They do.
Historically, I'm sure a third-nipple-owning Pippin is accurate.

Posted: 8/22/07 at 1:07amMark Wahlburg doesn't have a third nipple. Does he? I've seen many, many pictures of him without his shirt on. I'm pretty sure he doesn't. Does he? Now it's gonna bother me...

Depends. Meaning what you can bring to either role and what the director has in mind. My high school just did it this past spring and the director decided to split the part of the leading player into 3 (as in 3-ring-circus). Not sure if this idea originally belonged to our director but IMO (and frankly the opinion of every audience member who came to see the show, whether or not if they knew about this musical before hand), it was extremely unsuccessful. But shh..don't let the director know (we fed the director's ego and told the director that it was fine).
Now that my rant is done, I must say that the way that the director, directed the role of Pippin was fantastic. And Pippin NEVER took his shirt off.
So basically, it depends on what you think you have to bring to either role.

The leading player is sometimes cast with a woman, or with more than one person (as mentioned above), and it may also include a greater age range, so you may have less competition for Pippin. Especially at the high school level, they may do all sorts of things with the leading player. (And personally, I just like the Pippin role much better.)
Can you audition for both?
I would definitely wacth the DVD if I were you. I bet you'll then have a good idea which you want. GOOD LUCK!

Posted: 8/22/07 at 10:35amMarky Mark does have a third nipple (I saw it!). It is airbrushed out of most pictures. It's actually fairly common. (My Boyfriend has a teeny #3)
