I won't be able to travel to southern cal....
i saw it @ goodspeed with the same cast and it was outstanding. I wouldn't miss it if I were you.
Just came home from seeing the tour and I must say this was a wonderful production of a very hard-to-do show. Unfortunately it was a smaller audience this afternoon, but trust me there was lots of 'Magic' to be done. Andre Ward is magnificent as the lead player. He has all the right moves and notes. He was just this side of some 'major creep factor'.
Joshua Park was ok as Pippin, but nothing to really right home about. Although there were sound issues, his 'Extraordinary' just wasn't.
Shannon Lewis and James Royce Edwards steal the show every minute they can and even some where they shouldn't but they are so wonderful you have to forgive them.
A huge round of applause for the Costumes and Sets. I loved everything about them. Ooooooh and the lighting was fantastic. So much so that when you saw the sets without it you realised how much the lighting was used as a 'paintbrush.'
It really an enjoyable time at the theatre ad while it is a limited tour, if you can get to it, you SHOULD!
I reviewed it on Opening Night here but didn't finish it cause no one seemed to be interested. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them.
boxers sees the PIPPIN National Tour
The show begins performances here in Toronto this week. No word on when the official press night will be, but I will be there and will post a review.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Thank you all for your great advice. I ended up going, and I didn't like it much. I'm relatively new to the musical theatre super-fandom, and I believe it was more a function of me not liking the musical (it was a bit much for me and I didn't know much if anything about the plot before going) than not liking the cast. I thought the leading player was great, other people (Pippin, Charlemagne) were average to good. I'm glad I went to see it, but I have no idea how Schwartz wrote both Wicked and Pippin--talk about different!!
