Hi-

I just found this board after doing a little google search, and I feel like I've found a new home! Love your guys posts and look forward to engaging in conversation with you all.

I was wondering if anyone had anymore news on Pirate Queen casting. I loved Jeff McCarthy in Side Show and Urinetown and heard a bootleg recording of Hadley singing Marius (what a voice!). I just wondered if any new cast members have been announced (ensemble, other leads besides these Jeff, Hadley, Stephanie and Linda Balgord)? I am an admitted Les Miz lover and big Miss Saigon fan, so I am very excited to hear this new score and hope the show is just great.

Anyone have any new info to share?

Thanks-
Q.Bee

I don't know any specifics but they have been advertising around town.

Anyone else see the ads in Playbill?

jrb_actor, not sure you'll see this post but didn't you say way back when that you have a friend who was cast in this?

Thanks for the information and the welcome. I'm really looking forward to seeing this show. In the age of jukebox musicals, I for one am anxious to see another "epic" where we as an audience might have to do a little work rather than just sit back and enjoy a cute show. Not that there's anything wrong with those "cute" and "fun" shows. I just think it's time for something to blow us away, and hope this might be it.
Not to mention with the price of tickets these days, we deserve something pretty impressive. Will it be Pirate Queen? I hope so.

Thanks MyManCape.
I don't consider myself a theater snob or anything, but I do think that sometimes writers/producers/directors don't give us enough credit as audience members and force feed us everything.
YOU WILL LAUGH NOW! YOU WILL CLAP NOW! YOU WILL GIVE US A STANDING OVATION NOW!
I know there is a huge audience for those shows, and something like Mama Mia makes a lot of people a lot of money. But I personally miss going to the theater and seeing a story and hearing music that inspired me and made me think. Even if only a little bit.
I am afraid that at this point in time people on this board are thinking "okay, she is some over cerebral theater snob. shut up and enjoy the show!" Sorry if that's how I'm coming off.

Point of post: I hope Pirate Queen is good.

By the way, I think it's only fair to point out that I thoroughly enjoyed Wicked, for what it was.

I am looking forward to this musical very much. Gregory Calvin Stone was a great Valjean in LES MIZ. Just started reading the book.

By the way QBee, are you in NY or Chicago where you'll be able to see PQ? I'm out in CA and I'm going to have to rely on a cerebral theatre snob to fill me in on the details! HAHA I'm just kidding, you are FAR from it!

Also, there is a message board set up specifically for this show. You'd be a welcome addition and you should check it out if you don't already know about it.

Popular- I am in New York, so I promise to give you a detailed report once we have the show here. I am also plotting with a few of my girlfriends to make the trek to Chicago to see it there as well. Not sure I can wait til NYC. But not sure if I have the $ to make the Chicago trip. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the link to your PQ forum. Great site. I was just poking around it and saw that there is a casting rumor that Marcus Chait will be playing "the bad guy". Do you know if this has been confirmed? If so, I am even more exicted about the show. Confirming I am NOT a theater snob, I think I'm one of the few people who saw Urban Cowboy and I loved this guys performance. Great presence and voice (and bod! sorry, I had to). Besides the woman who played Sissy, I thought he was one of the only good things about that show, and managed to come off very well in a show that was terribly misguided. Please let me know if you have any inside scoop on that or any other casting, Popular. I'll sign up for your site at work next week.

And again, I'm happy to have found this online land of fellow theater lovers.

Here's to lots of interesting conversation to come.

QBee - I'll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the show. Lucky you in NY!!

That site I linked you to is not mine by the way. I just frequent it. It's mostly a Stephanie J. Block fansite at this point but you'll find a lot of PQ info as well. There is even a little bookclub to learn about Grania and Pirate history. Sadly I have not gone as far as to read one of the books yet. You can PM me and I can give you more info on the site if you'd like.

And I can't confirm one way or another about Marcus... I have no clue.

I heard they are already deep into rehearsals? Anyone know if this is true? Shouldn't we have heard more about this by now?

Curious-

Some of the cast were in Dublin for a few days in the beginning of July. I know that Stephanie has started physical training (working out, double sword fight training) but she has yet to update about actual rehearsals with a full cast. She mentioned she was going to continue working on her album after returning from Dublin before rehearsals started so I'm guessing they have started but are not THAT deep into it yet.

This may be late, but welcome!

I would like to thank you for posting in coherent sentences and with actually words. From what I can see, you are a very welcome addition to the boards. re: Pirate Queen (new to board)

I can't wait to hear more about The Pirate Queen, because my sister loves the book and is very excited about it going on stage. She's not a musical theatre person, and now there's two musicals that we can go and enjoy together (Mary Poppins is the other.).

Just heard on another thread that Mano Felciano was offered a part in Pirate Queen, but turned it down. This is completely unlike me but I'm going to go cry in a corner now...

Welcome to the boards!

Just a little advice:

Keep the bootleg talk to a minimum on this board.

Talk to you soon.

there is a VERY handsome and VERY talented young man in the ensemble named Nick Adams.. he was a standout in the Chicago tour ensemble and a killer Mary Sunshine.

How can he be Mary Sunshine? Is this a joke?

No. He understudied Mary Sunshine. In fact, he spent a few weeks this summer as the standby for the role on Broadway.

Mary Sunshine is played by a man in the show. When I first heard the Chicago OBC, I didn't know it was a man and kept on wondering why she sounded so groggy.

And welcome back.
