I think you're right, center or back! It's "Da Marino".

It's homemade, non-corporate food.

Most New Yorkers wouldn't be caught dead in a place like Olive Garden or any chain restaurant...

I also like Edison Cafe if I'm looking for cheap and quick.

But ninth is the real restaurant heaven. Vynl is great, Cara Mia as well. I'm also a huge fan of the sushi place across from Curtains... Kodama, I think.

Ellen's Stardust Diner is great and just so much fun.

The Delta Grille is fabulous. It's a little bit of a trip (maybe like a 4 buck cab ride!), but it's wonderful. Find it on menupages.com!

I second Ellen's Stardust (touristy and adorable!) but try to avoid the matinée rush. Though they try their hardest, they get entirely bombarded with floods of people trying to grab something quick before they see a show on the matinée days.

I second John's Pizzeria! Great great great food and really affordable.

I also love The Playwright's Tavern (which is really close to the O'Neill) and if you're into Mexican (and well, the wheather is decent), I recommend Blockheads. It's on 50th and 9th, right behind New World Stages.

I second John's Pizzeria and Ellen's Stardust. My voice teacher recommended that I eat at John's when I visited earlier this month, and my mom and I ate their 4 different times. Haha I've also been to Stardust several times and I think it's cute and fun so I would totally recommend trying that out as well.

Ollies in Times Square is closed

There's an Ollie's at 42nd/9th now- I don't know if that's considered too far away for tourists (the Olive Garden!? really?), but I work in Times Square and get to Ollie's about once/week for lunch.

as a New Yorker myself, don't go to ANYTHING you've ever heard of before! Olive Garden and TGI Fridays are the devil - overpriced food that sucks.

Olive Garden is reasonably priced & the food is good. It is not Nobu but neither are its prices

We are going to Nobu in the next few weeks after seeing Legally Blonde to commemorate our 9 th aniversary. Number 10 will find us @ the Danielli in Venice - and I don't mean California

At least in Venice, when you ride a gondola, you don't wear a seat belt. You do at the Venitian in Vegas.

Mrs R is into past lives so she was there in the 16 th Century as a courtesan. I was a gondolier with no coordination

$16 for a bowl of spaghetti and tomato sauce is reasonable? I could make that same crap at home for 16 cents. You get WAY more bang for your buck if you're a little more adventurous. For truly good and reasonable Italian cuisine, try Carmine's (44th b/w 7th and 8th) or John's Pizzaria (just down the street on 44th).

My fav. food in the neighborhood? Olieng (thai food) on 46th and 10th avenue.

or El Centro (mexican) on 54th and 9th.

You could use the same arguement about any restaurant. Imagine the mark up in more expensive restaurants. This is how they make money & it has been going on for years

We shall be sampling the fare @ Sardi's next weekend when Mrs R & I celebrate our 9 th Anniversary & then see Legally Blonde

Firebird was a disappointment but I think Sardi's will not disappoint. It will probably be better than the Olive Garden I would think.

Olive Garden is great in Iowa, but here in NYC? Hmmpf!

Tricolor on 47th between Broadway and 8th,, excellent Italian food, great service.

The Eatery on 9th and 53rd. Great stuff!
