Hey there,

So I am graduating this year from the western side of north america in Canada.. a group of friends and myself are planning a trip to New York for April 2010!

My question is about tickets..

I have said we should pay ahead of time for say 4 shows we have to see, and try and get good seats. Is this a good strategy??

I figure we pay for 4 shows ahead of time, and then we would use TKTS, lottos etc. for other shows

How does rushing work? What are the guarantees?

Can we use discount codes or is that local or surrounding area only? How do you find them??

Basically.. can anyone give me insight onto how to go about finding an affordable way to see as many shows as possible in a week, while still being able to get decent orchestra seats for atleast 4 shows.

For good seats, I'd say, yes in advance. Some may say that for shows that don't sell that well you can get them at TKTS or rush, but I wouldn't risk it. Besides, if it's your first trip, last thing you want is stress out about it.

That said, you can get great seats with discount codes, and they are for everyone, and a lot of shows offer them. Use them. If you can't find discount codes, then buy them in advance at full price.

What shows are you planning to see?

You can use discount codes. You won't be able to find discount codes for awhile if you're going in April 2010. They are usually only good for a 1-2 month block and then more will come out depending on how well the show is doing. If you're graduating this year, I'm assuming you would no longer be a student and therefore not have a student ID... Most rushes are student rushes. There are really no guarantees with rushes... You just have to be willing to take a chance.

Thank you, this is helpful!

It's a shame I will not be able to utalize student rush, but some theatres offer rush without being a student it seems??

Also, I do not really know what shows.. We all have different ideas.. I really want to catch 9 to 5.. it looks like it should be amazing.

Let's just hope 9 to 5 is still open in 2010! Yes. Some shows, such as CHICAO, offer general rush open to everyone.

Have a great trip! I usually use discount codes but depending on the show you might need to wait like a month or until 2010.
