Well... I don't know.
Let me put it to you a couple of ways, not in an effort to answer your question, but in an effort to enlighten you so that you may be able to answer it for yourself.
I'm not someone who is easily scared. In fact, I'd say that I'm rarely to almost never scared by movies or theater that's meant to be scary. I went by myself and spent portions of PLAY DEAD with my hands in front of my face. So I would say, in that way, it is highly effective.
*However*, it is also the kind of scary that's more like the while-you-are-scared-and-squeezing-your-eyes-shut-you're-also-squealing-with-joy-and-laughing-to-comfort-yourself kind of scary rather than the I-went-home-that-night-and-couldn't-even-close-my-eyes-because-I-was-afraid-of-the-dark-and-nightmares-that-would-come kind of scary.
I went by myself which i think was a bad idea. I was not scared at all, was sitting in the last row in the corner and missed out on a lot of things that happened up front. it was interesting but I wasn't scared at all. and i wanted to be.
