Play Moments That Make You Cry

There is a thread about musical moments that make you cry, so I want to start a thread about play moments that give you similar reactions. For me:

Just about the entire Second Act of PROOF
The last ten minutes of FRANKIE AND JOHNNY
The requiem in DEATH OF A SALESMAN
Pretty much the whole of LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT
The last scene of RECKLESS
The last twenty minutes of THE CRUCIBLE

Take Me Out - started crying during the shower scenes because I wanted to be the towel boy, but couldn't be.
The truly beautiful should be lawfully restricted from wearing clothing; and the truly butt-ugly should be lawfully mandated from going naked.

in wicked during dancing through life when everyone stares at elphaba dancing and then galinda joins her and gets everyone else to. it's just beautiful, and it makes me want to cry.

re: Play Moments That Make You Cry

Can we limit these to moments from plays only, please. There is already a thread about musical moments.

Just about all of The Normal Heart, but especially the scene where Bruce is telling Ned about the death of his partner. And the entire final ten minutes.
JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

The Normal Heart... the scene where Ned threw the food, Bruce's monologue about Albert, and the final scene.

re: Play Moments That Make You Cry

any opening number in a show... i cried in the beginning of Hairspray, BKLYN, and Wicked. i guess i just get so overwhelmed by everything. I dunno...any sad song too...there's too many to list. I mean even if ive never seen the show, and just listened to the music I cry sometimes, like in Miss Saigon, ive never seen it but i cry everytime i listen to it.

Yes, Ned's final monolgoue in THE NORMAL HEART is incredibly moving. THE DESTINY OF ME, as well.

MEF... what I wouldn't give to see The Destiny of Me on stage. I've read it several times. re: Play Moments That Make You Cry

When Angel dies in RENT and when Mimi "dies". *huggles her RENT soundtrack.
1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

re: Play Moments That Make You Cry

I would say most of "Prelude to a Kiss" and the end of "Grapes of Wrath." "Long Day's Journey.." didn;t make me cry at all--I thought it was overrated, except for Robert Sean Leonard.

Very brilliant acting by Raul Esparza.

re: Play Moments That Make You Cry

Just about the entire second act of Crucible. I first saw it with my brother as John Proctor, and I was quite audibly BAWLING for most of the second act.

re: Play Moments That Make You Cry

The last half hour of 'night, Mother. Marsha Norman wrote it like she was punching you in the gut over and over. Then she would back off and hit you again. Powerful stuff.
