I just saw Play Without Words in Brooklyn and it is fantastic. Matthew Bourne is so creative...
Has anyone else seen it?
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. There were seats open in the matinee today and the balcony was entirely empty. However, the audience really loved it, including myself!

I had to rack my brains, but then I remembered - yes I have seen it. Yes, it was good, but I was frustrated that there was so much going on at any one moment and yet you could only look at one thing at a time.. I felt I'd missed over half the show because so much was happening elsewhere.
The theatre was also very quiet when I saw it, but his work is like that - a niche, appreciative audience.
I have seen this production and loved it.
One of the most original and creative pieces of theatre i have seen in a long time. Matthew Bourne really is a genious!
I understand the frustration, but I got used to it as it continued. That was Bourne's whole concept and ingenuity with this work. It was clever and well-constructed!

I just got back from today's matinee- In one word- TERRIFIC! I really enjoyed it- sexy, different, constantly moving. Bourne is a true talent. The music was also excellent. The audience ate it up as did I.
GO SEE IT!
I saw it last week. I appreciated what they were doing, and LOVED the music, but I also felt the same frustration JakeB posted about.

You definitely HAD to pay attention as so much was going on on stage. Yes, you may miss afew things but I believe that it might have been the intention: for the viewer or vouyer watch what he wants to watch.
I watched Swan Lake last weekend on video. It was such a wonderful production, and the ending was incredibly surprising and touching.
After watching that, I felt more in touch with Bourne's artistry and choreography. SL and the PWW were totally different styles-- both which were incredible in their own way!
L.A. is the lucky city to get this production starting April 8 at the Ahmanson. Having seen Swan Lake, Cinderella, and The Car Man, I can't wait to see Matthew Bourne's latest! Looks like this is one I'll need to see twice.
