Playbill Question --#1

Posted: 3/8/08 at 3:07pm

I am located in Jackson, Mississippi, and we have about 6 tours come though a year. (Mostly non - Equity) But, when we do recieve an Equity tour, why do they not hand out playbills? I recently went and saw The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee, and they handed out cheaply made programs, that had the shows logo on the front.

None of the shows that come through, have ever handed out offical playbills. Is it the shows choice, or the theatres? Why is this?

That's a good question. Your the first person that I know of who hasn't received an official playbill, and instead you got a program. Very interesting.

The venue would have to employ the services of Playbill Magazine in order for them to pass out a Playbill. It has nothing to do with the show itself. Most likely the promoter who presented the show had the program that you received printed.

It usually has to do with the venue and/or the people bringing the tour to that location. They decide what they want. I have been seeing equity tours my entire life, with ugly programs called Stage Magazines.
