What are some plays that are overdone, aside from Shakespeare peices where no royalty fees have to be paid.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Our Town is WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY overdone, but for one main reason:
It is one of the best American plays ever written!
Our Town is beyond "amazing" or "legendary", it is in a special class of American Theater that only few plays may reach.

I never get tired of seeing OUR TOWN if it's well done. It's my favorite play ever.

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

WOO HOO, Matt. God, I love you more and more every day.
Yes, it is mine too. (by that, I mean that is is one of my favorites...how could I make an official numbered list?)
what are some others that are THE GREATEST AMERICAN PLAYS?
I say:
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Long Day's Journey Into Night
Death of a Salesman

those are a few.

Love all those on your list, nuggs- and I have to mention "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof", while not as produced as "Streetcar" (and maybe not as good), I still love it a little more.

I totally agree on Our Town.. Most High Schools do that show at least every 4 years or it seems like that around here..

I've actually never seen "Our Town" done. I love it, and am sorry to have missed it. Considering where I live, that isn't so surprising, but it shows that it can't be THAT overdone.

Depends on the time...in the eighties, it was CRIMES OF THE HEART, NIGHT MOTHER, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, and PAINTING CHURCHES...
Now, probably PROOF, ART, WIT...

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I don't think there are that many productions of "Wit", considering it requires an actress of remarkable stamina and skill to pull off.

What about TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and ANNE FRANK?
