Could there be an American Idol style show for writers? America votes for the playwrights. The winner gets an original musical produced.

Not sure this would work-writing isn't exactly exciting to watch on TV. But the idea of getting new playwrights is kinda cool. Maybe it could be more like a documentary series?

Sounds a bit like Project Greenlight and what it attempted with movies.

Yes! I was thinking of competing teams of writers/composers. Watching from drafting the pages to opening night on the stage. Similar to the Glee Project or The Search for the Next Elle Woods.
