The Westchester Broadway Theatre in association with the Young Artists Repertory Company proudly present its spring production of the celebrated Dana P. Rowe and John Dempsey musical comedy, Zombie Prom! This future mounting of the tuner boasts two alternating casts of roundabout 33 of the tri-state-area's finest 'Next Gen' musical theatre performers.
Zombie Prom is a campy, rollicking, romp through America's "Atomic Age" and the "Golden Age" of horror b-movies. It is a sharp and spiffy new show that is brighter and better crafted than both The Rocky Horror Show and Grease put together. Here's the story...
Set in the fabulous 1950's, this is the tale of a sweet teenage girl named, Tofee and her "rebel without a cause" boyfriend, Jo(h)nny. The two meet at Enrico Fermi High School and fall in love, but the principal, Miss Delilah Strict (Stalin in pumps and a dress!) intervenes, persuading the indecisive young Toffee to break up with him. Tortured by the betrayal, Jo(h)nny drives his motorcycle to the nearby Francis Gary Powers Nuclear Power Plant and flings himself headlong into the main waste treatment silo!
Guilt ridden and alone, Toffee mourns the loss of her love, until one day when Jo(h)nny returns, risen from the dead – as a teenage nuclear zombie! The mass of decomposing flesh professes his love and tells Toffee that he wants her back. He plans to clean up his act, finish school and take her to the senior prom - if she'll have him. Toffee is racked with indecision, but worst of all Miss Strict refuses to allow "zombie scum" in her fine institution. She even threatens to cancel the senior prom if anyone is caught supporting the cadaver.
At the same time, word of this conflict reaches Eddie Flagrante, a slick sensationalist TV show host, who loves a lost cause. Eddie arrives at the school with his film crew to cover the story and make a "cause celebre" out of Jo(h)nny. But once he arrives, we see that he and Miss Strict share a past, shrouded in an elusive mystery…

<--- I play 'Eddie Flagrante' (the role originally created Off-Broadway by Richard Muenz) , tabloid news journalist with 'a heart of gold' - I like to think of him as "Geraldo with Kevin Kline's comic appeal."
I ask that this thread helps spread the good word about a REALLY well-crafted piece of musical theatre. Both casts are super (and) if you're interested in seeing "soon-to-be" Broadway bucks and bombshells, you should totally come and see this!
I'm sorry if this one's coming off as a bit 'forced', but right now, ticket sales haven't been doing so hot. We only ask that word gets out (and) we garner *some* interest.

Posted: 4/22/07 at 11:41pmI'm curious as to whether or not anyone's interested in attending. I can assure it'll probably be MORE enjoyable than GREASE. Not to put it down, but there's thriving young talent in this cast here, and we'll do anything to prove that.

Limelightmike,
Did you guys get to work Richard Roland and Karen Murphy from the original cast(since they are both there doing Grease)?

Soon enough, I'm sure.
I was told before having auditioned that they would be invovled later in the process. Considering how close were are to opening, I'm HOPING to work with Richard and Karen -- Maybe once we get heavy into finalizing tech runs, etc.
I'll keep you posted!
It's going to be a GRRRREAT show!
Best,
- Mike

Anyone on here live anywhere close to the theatre? If so, I'm begging, nay, pleading that you go on and purchase a ticket to this production. It's funny stuff ... Seriously. Camp all 'round the place! Plus, I'm in it! If that's not selling point enough, I dunno WHAT is! Only kidding there. Ticket sales, as I'm told, are 'picking up' -- but of course, could be A LOT better. In case you can't tell, publicity for this show is on my shoulders.
Thanks for putting up with me, folks!
Best,
- Mike

$20 tickets are STILL available to anyone interested in attending. I know (from having been told by the director) that a few 'insiders' will be attendance. This gets me super-nervous and super-excited all at once ... 'course, he didn't drop any names just yet, but hey, here's hoping for some sell-outs. Ticket sales are slumping here, and we're REALLY trying to plug hard, giving publicity our all. Whatever we can get, really. If you're in the area, or even if you've 'just heard of Westchester Broadway and want to give it a shot' -- Please, by all means, do so. This forthcoming production promises to be special.
If nothing else, I thank you all for reading.
Best,
- Mike
