From imdb.com:
Acting and singing superstar Mandy Moore is considering a starring role in hit Broadway musical Wicked. The Saved beauty told fans on her official website about her love for the Wizard Of Oz prequel, which has won several theatre awards including three Tonys, since its launch last year. Moore enthuses, "Wicked is beyond amazing. I've actually seen it twice and was offered the chance to replace Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda) once she leaves the show. What an honor. But how could anyone step into those shoes? She's pretty unbelievable and irreplaceable and totally owns that role. Although I have to say that I'm obsessed with Idina Menzel (Elphaba). To me, she is the ultimate singer/performer and her voice blows you out of the water." Former New Kids On The Block heart-throb Joey McIntyre recently joined the cast of the New York hit, as partyboy Fiyero.
Its not that I have anything against the girl, I just dont believe she has near the vocal ability required. If I even try to think of her singing opera, I automatically get that ridiculous Candy song in my head. I hope this is just a bad, bad dream. I will NOT be happy if I have to see her as Glinda because I dont think I am going to be able to make it before Kristin leaves.

Posted: 6/28/04 at 11:52amNot to be a heightest or anything, but Mandy Moore is like 5"9 or 5"10. She would tower over half the cast. Elphaba is supposed to be the taller, semi-gauky kid in school, while Galinda is supposed to be this petite little beauty queen. I just couldn't picture it.

Posted: 6/28/04 at 12:16pmAnyone else see her perform Suddenly Seymoure with Adam Pascal? She couldnt pull that off, i doubt she can pull off the role of Glinda. I have much respect for her as a singer and as an actress, i just cant see her in this role. But this may be why i saw her leaving the theatre the last time i was there (June 8th)

Posted: 6/28/04 at 12:42pmI adore Mandy Moore! I don't know if she would make a good Glinda or not, but I will tell you this - if she took over that part I would quit my job in a second to go up and see her first performance. I do believe she's one "Pop Star" who has an enormous acting career ahead of her and I would love to see her get the chance to be on stage if that is something she would like to do.

Umm... yeah. Totally an honor.
I wonder if Spears or Aguilara got calls?

Posted: 6/28/04 at 12:48pmMatt_G: I agree with you, she is one "Pop Star" that i wouldnt mind seeing on Broadway, if she finds the right role. I think she has proven herself as an actress. Just dont know if this would be the right role for her. Anybody know of a role she would be good in? Maybe Audrey in LSoH?

Posted: 6/28/04 at 1:15pmMandy would play a very nice Nessa...but she's no Glinda.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

Posted: 6/28/04 at 1:17pmI agree that she is talented. As Glinda, I just don't see it. I don't think she fits that part at all.
re: Please no...#10
Posted: 6/28/04 at 1:18pmWho knows, though. She might just turn out great. Than again, this is a rumor. She's very busy filming again now so Broadway might not be in her cards anytime soon.

Posted: 6/28/04 at 2:18pmWhy even have this thread? Why not just cut and paste the other 800 threads about Mandy Moore's possible future on Broadway, combined with the other 800 threads about who might replace Kristin, combined with the other 800 threads about how stunt casting and/or pop stars are ruining Broadway?

Chill JohnPopa. We are specifically discussing a new article and news item, which, while related to the others, is different and, at least to us, discussion worthy. Don't read and complain please.
Now, my opinion. I think Mandy Moore can act, under certain circumstances. Based on her roles in Saved! and the sappy ones like "A Walk On The Moon", she is certainly able to play the role of Nessarose. In fact, I think she would be good at it. It's not too complicated, and the belt isn't very high. As it has been said, "she is one pop star I wouldn't mind seeing on broadway".
However, as G(a)linda or Elphaba, please, not in a million years, because she doesn't have that kind of vocal talent. Mandy Moore has a pleasant, but not spectacular voice. So no Glinda or Elphaba.
But I'd like to see her as Nessarose. However, I don't think any pop star would accept a featured role, instead of starring role, on Broadway.

Posted: 6/28/04 at 2:41pmWhy is Wicked considering stunt casting already when they are selling to full capacity every night?
re: Please no...#18
Posted: 6/28/04 at 2:44pmI would go see Mandy Moore in Wicked, though. But yeah, I don't think she has the range for Glinda. Of course, who knows, maybe there could be a less operatic take to Glinda. I'm just used to Kristin's version.

Posted: 6/28/04 at 4:29pmI'm not sure how any of this is possible since Jennifer Laura Thompson has already been confirmed officially. I wouldn't worry about it.

Posted: 6/28/04 at 4:40pmI'm not responding to you, specifically. I'm responding to those that actually believe it. I can't wait to see Jennifer Laura Thompson. I saw Urinetown at the end of its run, and I loved it! I just got the OCR (is that the Broadway cast or the Fringe cast?), and I love JLT! It's hard to tell how she'll do in such a vocally difficult role as Glinda, but if anyone can even attempt it, I'd put my money on her. I wish I could see the 7/20 show, when she comes in to go, "It's good to see me, isn't it." I bet she'll get get a Standing Ovation.
