Does anyone know if they're making a Broadway Cast Recording of MARY POPPINS?

I don't knwo if they will or not, but I'd doubt it since there's already a nice recording of the OLC (already with Gavin Lee). However, I suppose anything's possible.

London transfers almost never get a Broadway Cast Recording, but who knows with Disney...

London Transfers used to get Cast albums, up until Phantom of the Opera. We had our own Cats, Evita, Song & Dance, Les Miz. It wasn't until Phantom, Miss Saigon, & Mamma Mia that they really stopped. Some of the recent transfers didn't get albums due, in part, to the fact that they flopped (Woman In White & Chitty Chitty Bang Bang). Disney/McIntosh made such a fuss about using Bway favorites (and there will be changes for NYC), my guess is that they will do a US version. Though Ashley Brown has a lovely voice, I doubt I will be a completist on this show. The OLC is pretty terrific.

Yes, I believe it is going to get a Broadway cast recording, because as I understand it, the Broadway staging (and music) is going to be somewhat different than London. Disney will want a recording that reflects what people see at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
Anything can happen if you let it ...
Sorry, I had to make that post, if you understand where I got it ...
Anyway, I don't see why they wouldn't make a recording ... when there is a totally different cast, and several other shows have a London Cast Recording, Original Cast Recording, Original Revival Recording (or even a change in star recording - Wonderful Town, no?) and Off-Broadway Recording (Godspell ... many of them) and National Tours ... I don't see why not...
There will be an original Broadway cast recording.
If it is changed, I really hope Travers' estate sues. I love the film, but a rehash of it onstage wouldn't work.

Why should they sue? It's not like they made her a porn star or something. The American Audience isn't gonna go for the London version. They want to see something more like the film they're so familiar with. The whole sequence with the toys coming to life scared the young audience. It won't fly for families in America.
The American kiddies really need something that makes them think. Stiles and Drewe's new stuff really makes audiences think and adds a whole other dimention to the story.
I'm shooting a dead horse. I'm talking about the studio that put The Lion King on a special editon before Pinocchio.

Cats, Evita, and Les Miz all had significant cast changes when they came over here, however. The justification with Phantom was always that the leads had transferred, and most people wouldn't know or care that Rosemary Ashe, and not Judy Kaye, was on the cast album. The same thing happened with Saigon- the leads transferred (after much hullaballoo) and Mackintosh felt that was enough.
They'd sue because the deal they have with Cam Mac was the production would be true to the books and not the movie. This was the only way they'd let him have it.

Adamgreer - I knew this was the case with the above, I just didn't feel the need to really go into it. But Phantom was the beginning of the trend of not re-releasing an international hit. I just wish they had done a newer Phantom and a Mamma Mia so that Judy Kaye's performances would have all been captured.

Wasn't it said that Ashley Brown had gone to rehearse with the London cast? If that's so then it makes sense that they wouldn't change the show too much from what it is in London. I am sure they will take out "Temper, Temper". I hope they keep the originality the London show offers. If you're going to put the movie on stage, why bother?
I hope that Stiles, Drewe, Mackintosh and company aren't going to give into Disney and their opinion of family theater. It's really a great family show. It's a little scary, but again, it's just a show.

i think a little scariness is good for kids.
Walt Disney himself said that he wanted a little bit of scariness in the rides @ Disneyland, because it gives children a chance to conquer their fear, & they are so proud of themselves afterwards.
Who has seen the London version? How scary is "Temper, Temper"? I think it is perfect for the production because it is facing the children's worst fears.
What goes on in this scene? Any scene detail?
Maybe they will keep it in for previews to see how audiences react?
I just saw Mary Poppins last Saturday and was not expecting to like it as much as I did. I much preferred it over the child-friendly Disney movie and really hope they don't change it too much in the Broadway version. They probably will though because of a perceived need to Americanize it (dumb it down) to appeal to middle America and tribes of annoying children.
Temper, Temper is a great song. I can see why this scene would be a little frightening to kids because it shows the kids being "attacked" by the toys. Then again, I don't think the show is meant for kids under 7 or so anyway. They would get bored (like the kid who sat in front of me, though remained pleasantly quiet).
On the cast recording issue, I think Ashley Brown is a talented vocalist but I find the London recording to be practically perfect. I don't think a new one is necessary.
I thought Temper Temper was terrifying. I hope they change it.
On Walt, The Rides at Disneyland and so forth (a bit off topic, I know)-
As a four year old, I thought the Snow White ride was terrifying. For those of you who don't know what the queue for the ride is like, it's pretty scary for little ones. I cried on the queue. However, I felt a little braver after I rode it. Walt is and was absolutely right on that. I'm sure he'd approve on some frightning images in the show.
They'd better be making OBC CD!!! I need as many Dan Jenkins' CDs as possible When the rehearsal starts, I'll ask him if they are changing the story for Broadway.

I think it's likely they'll have "Temper, Temper" for at least the first week of previews...after that, who knows.
Disney has made London recording of The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. I find it very likely that there will be an OBC...it's just the Disney way.
From what I gather from the legal discussions, I also find it unlikely that the show will be dumbed down.
