Popstars on Broadway

What do you guys think of popstars taking on Broadway roles?

Personally, I think they should stick to the pop world. Not that they wouldn't do a really good job since their job is to perform. But really I hear about stars like joey mcintyre playing fiyero or joey fatone playing mark. I just can't make the connection. Not to mention that I think theatre is more demanding than being a popstar.

I think if someone is right for the role, willing to work hard, and has respect for the theatre, they shouldn't be discriminated against because they've released a pop album or been lumped in as a pop singer. There's a difference between someone who's a pop star who just wants to do a play for publicity and a person who is a talented overall entertainer who wants to move between different areas of the industry. To me it depends on who the person is and if they can do the job.

well...a lot of people see Broadway shows just to see their favorite stars live...and i love to see pop stars on Broadway. Actually i think many were better than the originators of the roles.

I have said this before but okay here goes... I think they should stick to where they started. Especially stars like Joey Fatone and Scary Spice who seem to me are just trying to regain their glory or whatever since they are, lets face it, has-beens. However, I have heard that some "popstars" are quite good (like drew lachey), but when I saw Joey Fatone he was HORRIBLE and was really not right for the role at all. He just didn't seem like a stage actor to me. I think it depends on the person, but for the most part I wish they would just leave broadway alone.
