One way they could greatly improve the show's ending would be to make sure the following information was conveyed to the audience. The bit with the hankerchief might be a lot more fun if the issue of English versus Irish cleanliness standards was included. As it is I don't see the point of it.
"O'Malley won almost every battle and considered it an honor to fight for the freedom of Ireland.
She demanded a visit with Queen Elizabeth I to seek the release of Irish prisoners. During her famous meeting, Grace sneezed in the presence of the queen. In an act of kindness, a member of the court offered Grace a silk handkerchief. Grace shocked Elizabeth when she blew her nose loudly and tossed the queen's expensive gift into a blazing fire.
The queen scolded Grace and told her she should have placed the handkerchief into her pocket. Grace replied the Irish would never put a soiled garment in a pocket because they have a higher standard of cleanliness than the English. After an awkward silence, the queen roared with laughter, not expecting to be treated with such audacity. This famous meeting is recreated in "The Pirate Queen."
O'Malley apparently raided English ships well into her advanced years. She died when she was 73 in her ancestral castle. She was one of history's most fearsome female pirates."
