Are actors more inclined to stop and take pictures and sign stuff on their way into work? How long before the show starts do they usually go into the theaters?

Depends on the person. Call time is a half hour before the show, but actors can get there at any point before that. And don't listen to the people who tell you it's rude.

Has anyone had any Elaine/Bernadette experience doing this? I'm all about beating the crowds. lol

I tried doing this at ALNM, and was unsuccessful. I knew Elaine didn't sign after, so I was there about 90 minutes before the show and hung out until showtime (this was when it was still warm out), and neither of them went in through the Stage Door.

Bernadette is usually very sweet and will sign after. Strich on the other hand will not.

I ended up getting Bernadette and everyone else to sign my Playbill afterwards - and then I took a risk and mailed it to Elaine to sign - and she DID! I just got it back a few weeks ago... so now its complete!

If you send Stritch a fan letter, she'll sign a picture or something for you. She's very good to her fans that way. I think Stage Door-ing must be incredibly demanding and a little frightening for an 85 year old.

"Frightening" might be a little harsh of a word for a stage veteran, don't you think? She really is great about replying to fan letters, but she's always been an idol, and would love a chance to meet her and maybe get a picture. Oh well

Elaine also has pretty serious diabetes, and I've read that she has to eat almost immediately after a performance. I would assume that she leaves through another door so that she can get home ASAP to eat.

Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Hm- I saw ALNM a few months back right after re-opening, and Elaine did go right in the stage door before the show. She arrived in her car and walked right in. No one stopped her, but it must have been about 35 minutes to the show, as people were lining up outside to get in by that point.

Bernadette is always so nice at the stage door! I have actually chatted with her for a bit both before and after a show and she always signs. For ALNM, she gets there about two hours early on most days, just an FYI. Good luck!
