Preparation for RENT the movie....

As an early Renthead...I am just thankful (and a bit saddened) that my plans won't involve any camping outside of the theatre.
I really have no idea what I'll be doing before or after just yet, but I suspect I'll see it with my wife - whom I met as a result of flying out to LA to see the Benny Tour. Sappy, but real.

I had made plans with a few of my friends to skip school and see the movie several times on the 11th... but know that the date has changed, me and my best friend are planning a road trip to Toronto so we can still see it on the 11th!

Just wondering...
Is the movie still being released in some markets on 11/11?? I have "Hope and Faith" tickets for that day, and since that tapes in NY, I'm planning on making a weekend out of it...it would be sweet if it all worked out!

Yep, Meagan, it'll be opening on 11/11 in NYC, LA, and probably some other major cities to be announced.

Meagan, yes the show still opens in "major markets" on 11/11. LA and NY are safe.
Whisked, I can't see Rent opening at the Dome but I guess stranger things have happened.
Personally, I think seeing it at a more independent, grittier theatre would be fun - like the Nuart on Santa Monica.
More likely, it will end up opening at Sunset 5 in West Hollywood.

Nov. 23 is mine and my girlfriends three year anniversary and Rent is the one show that we bought third row center seats to and drove three hours on a school night as seniors to see the show. It will be a good day :)

Yay!
You know what's going to be horrible though?
Seeing it on the 11th and then having to go another 2 weeks before it comes out around me!! I know i'm gonna want to go sooner than that!

I don't have plans yet, but I did see a coat today at Goodwill (I shopping for a show costume - I swear) that looked almost exactly like one of Mark's coats (at least one I've seen in the trailer, don't remember if he had a coat on stage), and I was going to buy it to wear when I see the movie - along with scarf and glasses, of course. Anyone else dressing up? I don't have near enough confidence in my masculinity to dress as Angel, but if I did find some tight blue pants with a lepord skin top...

Calmly buying a ticket the day it opens in Chicago because a) I know it won't sell out and b) I don't want to get my hopes up like the rest of you, unless test screenings reveal that this film is perfection.

nothings perfect. not even rent.

Edit: Unless test screenings reveal that there's no foundation to the negative press the film has received.

Wait, am I just blanking out or do I not know this, what negative press has the movie gotten? I didn't think there WAS any press about it, because there haven't been screenings yet.

Also, two articles in Entertainment Weekly (one plainly negative, the other ambivalent). Hey, I'm looking forward to Rent as much of any of you but - having a balanced mind so rare amongst Broadway lovers - I'm not going to allow my own excitement about the film to blind me to hard facts. Some journalists are looking forward to the film. Others have very low expectations for it. That's just the way it is.

Evelyn, do you know what the chances are of this movie being released on the 11th here in Chicago? I would love to dress up and got see it with some friends that night. Otherwise I guess we'll just have to have a Peasant Feast & Movie Outing on the 23rd.

Those links don't prove anything...They aren't even written by real journalists, just a bunch of wannabe critics who don't know anything. They didn't even make any valid points, their only argument was that Columbus "ruioned" Harry Potter. Whatever. And i'm not even clicking that aintitcool link because there's nothing but morons over there. Ugh. Anyway, I still have no fear about this movie, and most other real journalists have given it good buzz.

Some of those journalists specialize in creating Oscar buzz so, while their opinions probably won't have a deleterious effect on the outcome of the film, it is relevant to the film's awards potential which is in turn relevant to box office and how people remember the film. Also, call them fake journalists all you want, but they pull off interviews with cast and crew for big Hollywood films. (See Goldderby for Tom O'Neill's filmed interview with Rob Marshall for MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA.) Hollywood takes them seriously. Columbus has even been responsive to what has been said.
Early reports stated that the limited release wouldn't be extended to Chicago. But considering that films such as Kinsey and Vera Drake opened in limited release here, I don't see why Rent wouldn't too. There is definitely a market for it. The tours of the stage production do really well in Chicago.
