Posted: 1/27/11 at 10:06amCall me behind the times, but I had NO idea this was a jukebox musical. How do we feel about this?

Many and/or most who have seen it have claimed that the accomplishments of the book elevate the material as a whole.
I remain dubious.
Or at least cautiously optimistic.

I aslo assumed it would have original music.
Still looking forward to it!

The show is wonderful. It's jukebox in the sense that the music is pre-existing, but the songs are for the most part used in the way that the songs in Jersey Boys are. The characters are performing the songs as part of the act. A few are used to forward the plot (comparable to Fallen Angel in Jersey Boys), but most are performance numbers.
Also, the track listing doesn't include the overture or Boogie Wonderland. Is this a mistake, or are those numbers not being recorded. I will be VERY upset if Jessica Phillips doesn't get to record her one solo from the show on the CD.

Good Lordy.
Why are people complaining about the music? Did any of you see the film?

I normally hate jukebox musicals but I loved Priscilla in London - can't wait to see the Broadway production in April. My feathery jacket is making the journey with me!

Posted: 1/27/11 at 3:23pmLove the jacket and yes, you might even get called to go up on stage if you are anywhere near an isle or front row seat. Wouldn't that be fun. It was fun watching people from the audience getting dragged up on stage to participate in a dance number.

Posted: 1/27/11 at 6:21pmI have a big question. Does the fact we do not see any single ensemble member mean that the chorus are pre-recorded like they do in some shows nowadays ?

According to Tad Wilson's twitter (Tad Wilson is in the ensemble of Priscilla), he was in the studio on Tuesday. According to Nick Adam's twitter, he was in the studio Wednesday. So I guess the answer is...yes? They recorded chorus stuff a day earlier.
And Will is gorgeous, yes.

I was under the impression that for Broadway all music has to be performed by a live orchestra and all vocals sung by actors,
no prerecorded tracks allowed.

Posted: 1/28/11 at 11:03amWait, what? The ensemble recorded tracks for the cast recording a day earlier than the leads. They aren't prerecording stuff to be used during live perfomances...
